Bought a regal installed motor car was blown up put a n/a 3800 w top swap in now when i turn key no crank at all but i can jump solenoid it runs foir few sec and dies am i suposda have a vat chip key? Could the security stop car from crank even if it has a key that stops the engine
 


It could. what's teh security light doing after it starts up?

Also.. you get nothing from the key..not even a soleniod click? Sounds like a possible ignition switch, trans range switch or something else stopping the start signal. Being a 98 it should prime the fuel pump at key on, then start and stall.
 
It only starts solenoid is jumped so idk about the sec light gary trimarco the dealership here says it would all light up if i had a plain key made and then when i hit the key to start nothing would happen even if it turns the ignition so fed up with this car shoulda been done by now cant get a vat key till monday :(
 
I'm pretty sure Gary T dealership is pulling that out of their heads. Which would be the wrong security system for your year. The 98 Regal should prime, then start and stall out because the fuel pump doesn't get turned on. I know this to be 95% positive because I have the same system in my 2000 Regal. When I installed my alarm and bypassed vats at the BCM I then put the resistored key into the ignition w/o unplugging the resistor wires to the bcm. Right..double resistored. Started, and stalled.
 
ok but when i bought car lady gave me keys that didnt turn ignition so i had to go get a key cut at the dealer ship just a plain steel key no chip to get regal on dolly and get home then upon installing my new top swaped 3800 now i have this problom gary t could be wrong he didnt look in any books or computer did they just say that to make me buy a key and wqhen that dont work expect to me to bring car to them? lol job security well ima check all my plugs inside car i kinda tore sheet up when key wouldnt turn to get car off dolly
 
I believe that VATS is pissed off. However, they key turning should crank the starter. Did you touch the connectors on teh back of the trans by the selector cable?
 


once you find out what oms your vat your key is supposed to be. search e bay for a new key, i found one for 10 bucks shipped, dealers want up to 30 for 1 key.
 
If you know someone with a tuner you can have them disable VATS. Just have them set it from serial to PWM and it's gone.
