98 regal gs trans finally going?

My 98 GS has 180k on it now, over the winter i got a pcm and rebuilt my whole front suspension. Last year before i replaced my long block from a blown int gasket at the track, i had run a best of 14.2 at 99.5 mph. I could run these times easy. Well after the motor replacement, tune, and suspension my best times have been 14.3 at 99.0 on a cool night, but i have noticed that when i am launching and get going i hear a odd noise from the front of the car. Like something slipping. After the suspension it gets great traction but tonight at the track my best time was a 14.3 at 97.0 and seems like i kept hearing that noise more than before. Are my first gear clutches worn out or is something else here the problem? I never had this noise until the pcm install and suspension rebuild. Shifts fine on the street and no noises, just under wot runs.

Tough to say. At 180K, you know they aren't fresh and nice. If you had slipping though, you'd know. Because you'd press the pedal for the launch and you would be sitting at the light or have a horribly long 60' with a lot of rpm and no rubber.

yeah at 180k its hard to know. I don't think its slipping like no movement but fighting to actually grab and hold on.

Ehhh I'm in the same boat as you. At 185K and change.. my GS is avg 21mpg. Even on a long highway trip. So I blame the trans. (blaming anything else, means more work).

Likely the clutches etc aren't in great shape. However like you say.. when you get on it...it pulls fine.

yeah, it mainly only does it in first. I mainly think thats it because i've raced the car since i bought it almost 4yr ago starting at 134k at 167k my intake manifold gasket blew out at 80mph destroying 3 rod bearings, replacement motor had no blower with it so i clean both intakes up, cleaned intake ports and all kinds of stuff and the motor was clean when i got it but even more when i put it in.

Basically i think with the cleaner motor, my mods, and the original trans still in there its finally starting to give in to the extra power and many many strip passes. It mainly see's only street driving and gets 15-16mpg with minimal idle time.

3.4 pulley, 3in downpipe, 3in single hogan catback, new front powerlog, wizaird intake with dryflow aem filter, 180* thermo, autolite 104's, and a overkill pcm. I had the bypass valve pushed all the way down before the tune but overkill recommends undoing it which i did and only see 12psi on factory gauge.

well my plans were possibly rockers and intercooler next year with a retune but before i go to the track next i'm ordering a aeroforce gauge. I ordered the tune when they had a special price on them before newyears and saved some money with that and kept the car safer. Might just have to get a small loan real quick and get the trans for future anyways. Just wish i knew what else could make that sound so i can rule it out first. Its not really a grind but i can't say it isn't.

i don't have anything to make a good one. I'm actually starting to wonder if one of my mounts is collapsed or something. My exhaust broke the small rubber loops that hold it up where the downpipe and catback meet. I could only get one back on it cause it was hot and when i went to stretch the other it broke to. The one i got on broke in less than a day and it wasn't even barely stressed. So something is up with my car besides the noise. I went almost 6 months with just one loop before so having a brand new one on should have lasted longer. Plus i think i'm just going to replace with a used trans, if thats it, from morad and my father possibly found me a engine and trans from a 69 grand prix i could put in my tempest and just drag it from now on.
