98 gtp transmission linkage stuck

I just bought this car from a guy that blew up the motor. He put a motor in the car but after the transmission **** arm wont move. i had to beat on it to get it out of park so i could roll it off my rollback. has anyone seen this before? is it something stupid? i was just wondering before i replace the tranny. Thanks
 


did you beat the shifter or the linkage off the trans?

the shifter has a lock built into it and sometimes the solenoid craps out. theres a button under a plastic cap to the right of the shifter, pop it and put a small screw driver in and push down to release the shifter from park.
