jus started having problems with my 98 grand prix gt.......when i go to start it nothing happens i have full power all the lights come on but when i turn the ignition it does nothing. i did let it sit for a few minutes and then tryed it and it started ran fine.......when i shut it off it would not start again.....when i start it again and turn key the headlights go out. im lost and dont know what to do. also trying to find location of the starter so i can check it. my car has 204,000 miles on it and doest give me many problems.........i love this car and want it fixed.......can anyone help. thanks, foosyerdaddy

when it wont start do you hear a click? (sure sign of bad starter or weak battery)

id start with checking the battery cables. the starter is in the front side of the engine(bumper side), towards the driver side of the engine, by the trans bell housing, check the cable there as well. cables get old, and corroded, or the starter may be on its last legs.

as a last ditch effort it may be the ignition switch (where the key goes)

scotty thanks fo advise, i hear no clicking at all. i did remove the starter and took to Auto Zone......they checked it and everything looked good so now im home again.....going to put some degreaser on the starter and clean the connections and put back in. so i will have to see how that works.
