98 GP stock air filter assembly

I just replaced the air filter in my 98 GP SE last week, and am now hearing a kind of 'hollow' sound from that area of the car. When I put the air filter in and connected the tubing assembly back to the filter assembly where the comp is, I couldn't get it to latch on the bottom. Only on the top so it's a little loose on the bottom.

Is there a latch on the bottom of this assembly? Does it fit securely? Do you think this would create this 'hollow' echo sound?
