98 buick regal air temp intake sensor code

hey all, ive just picked up a 98 buick regal GS 3800 with supercharger, my problem is the engine light is on, the scanner says its air intake temp sensor, witch i changed, and the light is still on, i noticed that the wires to the sensor plug have been cut and taped up, by the last owner i suppose. can anyone think of any other reasons the code still trips the engine light? and am i getting bad mileage due to the light being on? it really seems to be drinking up a storm thanks scott

i know GTP's and GS's are practically the same deal, but you could swing over to the fine gentleman at regalgs.org i used to spend alot of time on there and they will deffenatly be able to help you out. congrats on your purchase, Regal GS's are defenatly nice cars, a good friend of my has one, (the one in my avatar). id make sure that the car is actually seeing an input from the sensor before i tried tracking down a break in the wiring.

If you have tape on the wiring, pull it off and inspect it. I'd bet they probably twisted the wires together and that's going to corrode and cause issues. You want to clean it up, solder the wires and tape or heat shrink the connection points.
