98/04 audio swap?

Awhile back I was a proud owner of a 98 GTP, but sold it and got a newer 04 GTP. I love the 3800's. Anyway, the 04 has the monsoon system in it, but honestly it sounds nowhere near as full as the 98's system. Has anyone done any sort of swap on the 04 system? I guess just having the 8-channel analog EQ would be fantastic, but having the speaker set would be great too.

98 is din and half and 04 is double din so if you could get it to work wiring wise ( I highly doubt it) you would be left with a hole in your dash either under or over the radio.

Why not just go aftermarket?

Because I like the sound of the old one. Also, it has an analog EQ. I listen to a very wide variety of music and the digital EQs are a pain to change. I'm not too worried about the hole in the dash, I can make something up to fit there. Been wanting to put in multicolor interior lights; would be a great place to mount switches and pots.

I mean, it's possible... but by time you make it work, you could easily have yourself a pretty nice aftermarket system. Also, who said you have to deal with digital EQ if you go aftermarket? There are plenty of EQs if you prefer knobs/buttons/sliders... from 1/2-din dash units to full-blown trunk-mounted units. Again, can it work? Yes... do I personally think it would be worth the time invested when compared to researching and piecing together an aftermarket system to suit your needs? Absolutely not. I understand liking the sound of it... but I truly believe that you can achieve much better results by utilizing the amazing array or aftermarket car audio products available to us today.

Also, the cars have similar steering wheel controls; I'd like to retain those if possible. Do you know of any aftermarket units with an analog EQ? I haven't seen one anywhere.
