97 VW VR6 w/Vortech CSC

race was earlier in the week:
Local guy has a white 97 gti HB vr6 5-speed with body kit with a vortech csc and a 10psi pulley, also has a C2 chip, and injectors-IIRC. He doesn’t have any dyno numbers or track times, but said prolly over 300hp(crank or wheels?). had 2 runs, 1st run I was behind him and when traffic cleared and an open stretch was open he gunned it and I followed suit. We were startnig at 60mph and he switched lanes while I stayed in the left lane. It was a dead even race up to 120. second race I was ahead this time and were going approximately 65mph and he was behind me, and once I gunned it he followed suit. Once again he didn’t gain nor I pulled away. This was with 2.9” pulley and 17* of timing with very minimal knock if any at all.
i was amazed my car had some top-end considering the W-bodies suck up top:th_tongue2:. we gave each other props for quick cars.
this was not planned as i was on the freeway trying to get my tune inline and wanted to run 20-22* but noticed i was getting knock in those areas so i realize only 17* was fine w/o knock. i can imagine the VW driver was also untuned.

edit-is there a huge difference in fuel/timing b/t a freeway/higher speed tune and from a dig tune?

'should' be the correct word, but i honestly dont know. i've ben trying to tune the car for a while now and not get KR.
