97 tranny swap Need answers quick

I have a 97 GP GT, Tranny is dead and don't have the money to rebuild it, but I have a 97 buick park avenue with a 3.8, I've heard rumor that Only 97 tranny's fit 97's. Any truth to it? And would there be a problem with this swap? Guys looking to sell the whole car for 450.
 


As long as its a 4T60E with the correct gear ratio and not a 4T65E it will work and I don't remember when they switched the Buicks over to the 4T65E.
 
Everyone got swtiched over in 98. So both would be 60's as long as both are NA. The gear ratio can be changed as easily as swapping the diff.
