97 Grand Prix GTP Tranny shifts into 2nd gear late

Hey guys, problem.... Ive got a 97 Grand Prix GTP. The Tranny shifts into 2nd gear late:confused:. Right around 40 - 55 MPH. Alot of time if you are constantly accelerating you have to back off to allow it to shift into 2nd gear. Runs great though. Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance
 


Sounds like it may be slipping pretty bad but because it is an electronically controlled transmission it must be properly diagnosed with a scan tool to know exactly what is going on. With a scan tool you will be able to view when the pcm commands each shift. If the pcm is not commanding the shift and the reason it is late then there is a reason for it. If the pcm IS commanding the shift and it is not happening then the trans is likely slipping and possibly in need of replacement.
 
Thanks Trannyman95. That sounds like my next step then. Was hoping for a different fix, but knew that was probably it. Will take it in to get a diagnosis. Will report back here with my findings.
