'97 GP/NA Wipers in "off" position stick straight up.

Recently my wipers began acting up. They operate normally when engaged, but when I turn the switch to the "off" position they end up sticking straight up, basically in the vertical position. :th_scratchhead: This happened randomly one day when I shut them off.

This happens as follows:
1. During normal operation, I turn the wipers to "off".
2. The wipers go to the "off" position but then immediately bounce back towards the very leftmost position of their travel, and then bounce about 3 inches of travel to the right, where they eventually disengage and remain motionless, and stuck straight up obstructing my view and making me look like a total douche-bag :th_wtf:
:th_shakinghead1:
Any suggestions on how to reset the wipers to their normal "off" position?:th_sick1:

theres a thread somewhere that says how to fix it, there is like a clip in the wiper motor that needs to be at a 90 degree angle and if it gets bent and like a 45 degree angle the wipers dont know to stop in the down position, i'll look around and see if i can find it again

pin on wiper motor is bent.

you can bend it back but it will happen again.

best option is to replace the part.

cheapest is to bend it back.

I found some pictures of the pin you're talking about online. It looks like a pretty simple job, might be a pain in the butt to get apart though.

Does this pin need to be removed or can I bend it while it is still installed? I'm mechanically inclined but won't have time to tear it apart 'til tomorrow. Also, does the little cam/pin need to be lubricated with grease or sealed up with anything?

Thanks for the info.

Not to thread jack but my wipers only work right when my car has been driving for at least half an hour. I turn pff and they stay up i hear the motor trying for a couple mins then they finally go down. And when i put it in the delayed modes it works delayed for a lil while then it just keeps going like itst turned to the slowest constant setting and the faster setting still work

There is a park mechanism on WBody's that tends to bend if the wipers get used with too much ice or snow. You need to remove the wiper arms, then the plastic cown panels in order to gain access to the wiper motor and trans assy. Once the cowls are removed you may see the metal bracket that contacts the spring loaded finger on the motor has been damaged or bent. You'll need to bend it back up so that it contacts the finger again.
