97 Blue pearl GTP. update 5/30/2013 engine pics

Re: My 1997 gtp.

If you want to enhance the interior one thing I am seriously considering doing is adding bucket seats in the rear. It looks killer on a GP and it would be a nice compliament to the rest of your car. The black interior would be a nice upgrade though. Keep the pics and updates coming...
ya i definetly will the most recent project are these bad boys.

Re: My 1997 gtp.

when you pull up the vin # it will tell you what your car is. at the dealer they pulled up my vin and it said 1997 grand prix gtp.

Re: My 1997 gtp.

You can't find GTP's with catfish bumper or no spoiler.

In 1997 and 1997 only the GT, not the GTP were offered with the spoiler as an option (there are a few around here without one). All GTs had alloy wheels and GT bumpers (hence them being called GT bumpers...), and all GTPs had them therefore as well.

I don't feel like wasting the time to provide the proof, but if I must I will.

A little common sense for starts might help: The only reason to upgrade from an SE to a GT was that the GT came with standard 3800 and standard ground effects package (GT front and rear bumpers, and side skirts). SE's didn't have an option for ground effects, only for spoilers (and around 2000 the spoiler and GT bumper also became standard on the SE). The SE had the OPTION for a 3800, but if you wanted to ground effects you had to get a GT, therefore offering a GT much less a GTP without ground effects or alloy wheels or a spoiler was non-existent.

As I said, every GTP came standard with alloys, ground effects, and spoiler. In 1998 so did all GTs as well. HUD and leather in GTPs were usually there case, but again optional.

Next time I see it I will get pics of the black 2 Door GTP with the catfish front bumper that rolls around here.

Re: My 1997 gtp.

Kinda neat. Should have a piece of plexi in it though. The trunk isnt sealed so any cold air that comes in to the trunk will come into the cabin.

Re: My 1997 gtp.

Yup you can find GTP's with cloth interior, 6 speaker radio, no hud, hub caps, no spoiler, catfish front bumper.

and a bench seat. the bench seat wasa no cost option on GPs i have only ever seen 1 though that was not a mary kay pink car.

the bumper though is standared it is not hard to swap a bumper or add badges to a SE, spoiler was still optional in 97 it became standred on GT and GTP in 98 becuase it was an added package untill 99 my (99 GTP is a GT but my 2000 GTP was a GTP)

the most base you could get a GTP in 97 is cloth bench interior, colum shift, 4 way power seat no lumbar, DIC, 6 speaker (no bose), mast antenna, prop rod, no spoiler, casette treb/base head unit, steering wheel controls, and 5 spoke painted rims

a none GTP packaged GT would have a analog DIC as the DIC is part of the GTP package

also your GTP was the same color as mine green/blue teal metallic color.

Re: My 1997 gtp.

what are you talking about bench seat evrey gp that came from the factory from 97 and up and probably earlier than that has a bench seat and same with the 97+ gp's have a consule shift not a collum shift.

Re: My 1997 gtp.

they came with bucket standard but could be fitted with a bench and collum shift for a $0 option

all the mary kay pink 97-01 GPs where bench seats and besides that i have seen 1 GT in person with a bench seat

Re: My 1997 gtp.

that pic not sure the one i saw in person was a 01 Mary Kay GT the arm rest has a cup holder that slid out like a buick park av or le saber much better thent eh cup holder that is in the center consol ont eh bucket seat cars it can actualy hold the drinks

most pics i have seen have been 97 SEs

Re: My 1997 gtp.

Bench seat was 97 only, very rare, and NEVER in GTPs. Same with spoilers. It was a listed feature on GTPs that bucket seats and spoilers were standard. Listed, as in, it was under the "Standard" box on the window sticker.

Re: My 1997 gtp.

i have seen enough GTPs ordered with out spoilers to debunk this. but only 97 same reason why 97s have mast antennas and prop rods. GM ran out of parts and had to ship cars with out the option they gave them cash credit what the option cost to have off the price of the car

and the bench was no cost you could get it in any thing if you wanted people jsut didn't do it but it was still available. buckets where standared on SE as well

Re: My 1997 gtp.

^ Because like he's saying yours is a regular one.

I guess it makes sense. They're all SUPPOSED to have spoilers, but with how immensely popular the car was at the time, it makes sense if they started turning more GTs into GTPs than originally planned.
