Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

97-03 Retrofit Resources

i will add this to the list in the first post. It will be very helpful as it is pretty much the only recent, complete how to for the 97-03 retrofits. excellent job.

well ill have my stuff to make my set Wednesday ill do a write up until i get angry at the lights lol

For those that have completed this project, I have a question about how the projector sits in the headlight housing.

I was tinkering on a light over the weekend. I got to the point of checking my alignment, and am fighting to get the beam to match the OE beam; it wants to be inboard.....

And I had to go out so I put the housing in a spare mount and hit the local Ikea to do and in car test.

I'm sure I could get the projector sitting in the right spot, but it doesn't sit naturally. And from what I have seen from all the other retro's, the projector sits nicely (possibly centered) in the hole of the housing, where as I have to force this one down and inwards. Just doesn't seem right to me.

Just looking for GP installs over on HIDPlanet. In this thread ( 2001 retro on a grand prix GTP. - Page 4 ), buddy has a pic of the backside of his housing, and the stem of the projector is well inboard and down compared to mine:

When I get home, I want to remove the thick gasket between the projector and housing and mess with it that way.

Last night I removed the shroud and the thick rubber gasket (between projector and housing) to give me more wiggle room. I was able to get the angles and such for correct alignment:

And this is how the stem of the projector needs to sit:

I am going to try and make/modify a curved washer with an offset hole.

4THGENCAMAROFAN, when looking head-on to the projector, you must have trimmed the upper left corner? When adjusting for my cut-off, I noticed the projector touching the headlight housing in this spot; needs a very slight trim.

I had to cut the corners on the projector itself, just a little bit so they didnt touch the inside of the capsule. The shroud has to be hacked away big time aswell so it doesnt touch the inside of the capsule too. It will touch on just the edges when its all the way inside but I was still able to get them center in the hole.

Thanks for that info. I have one shroud cut away (to much in some spots), but it looks like I need to fine tune it.

I was just re-looking at LS01GTPs thread ( http://www.grandprixforums.net/how-retrofit-projectors-97-03-gp-75773.html ); he has some good pics showing how things need to be.

Last night I trimmed the shroud and one corner of the projector, and I can now get proper alignment. This pic is a bit low and right, but I can adjust that now upon the final install.

I might do a write up as well. I plan on doing another set as i'm not satisified with how the first turned out. But being my first retro ever they're okay.
