96 gt engine wont turn over

Hello,
My daughters 96 gt was randomly starting, I replaced the starter, plugs and wires, then she told me she hears a click from what seems to come from the glove box. Engine does not turn over, after turning the key off and on, shifting the auto tranny thru several positions the car would start. This went on for about a month while I was looking for answers, now the car wont turn over at all. New Battery is good, all connections are tight and clean. I have read this same problem on other sites, but have yet found anybody that has posted a solution. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Runs great after getting started

Thanks, James

If it starts after going through the gears then it's probably the neutral safety switch telling the computer the car is in gear(reverse, drive whatever) when it's actually not therefore not letting the engine turn over.

EDIT: I didn't know they made a 96 gt lol

Ok, i have the same problem here with my 2004 GTP. I checked all the electrical circuits with my DMM, the voltage and resistance is within spec on the starter circuit and battery. I've replaced the starter itself, tested the P/N safety switch, and tested the Ignition switch and all are working fine. I've even pulled the spark plugs one by one to see if maybe my luck was bad enough I had a Hydrolock in a cylinder but that wasn't the case. Everything acts normal but the engine will not rotate at all. I'm going to buy a breaker bar and socket today to try and rotate the motor by hand but aside from that does anyone have any more ideas? I really don't want to call an expensive tow-truck...

LOL, so yeah the whole no start condition was such a dumb easy fix. After I ran all the tests I could think of my GF said maybe I should check the battery. So I used my DMM to check for battery voltage and got 11.4v. After humbly thanking her I charged the battery and the car ran fine. I did have the starter tested at the shop and they said it was dead so it's a good thing I installed a new one. My alternator was also out so I had to replace that one as well. For future reference to anyone who wants to install a nice sub system in their car...invest in a Capacitor and make sure your alternator can handle the amp draw. It'll save your alternator and you a lot of hassle, lol.
