92 ASC McLaren

I have a friend who has an ASC McLaren car and wants to sell it. Kind of a funny story behind the car. My sister bought it back in 96 or so from the original owner, window sticker and all. She drove it for a few years then sold it. Well my buddy bought this from the guy my sister sold it to. Funny I think. My question is should I buy it? He wants $5000 for it. He painted it, recovered the seats, re did the wheels, fixed all the little things that were wrong with it. I don't rember the miles on it. I'm sure they are up there. Tha car is black with tan interior. Is the car worth the 5k or would I be getting in too deep in the car? Thanks for the help! I think it may be a '90 not a '92. My bad.

I'm going to call him later to find out the miles. He has it in storage, I may be able to get pics this weekend. I don't have a clue on what it's worth. I don't think many were made. The new paint and reconditioned interior and wheels couln't have been cheap. It's a loaded car, I guess they all were. It' has the funky controls in the steering wheel. Man has technoligy come a long way or what. I remember when my sister had it, it was a super fast car!!!!! Has anyone on here ever had one?

They are no different then a normal 5.0 Besides a body kit and name.

They are a 15 second car stock with a good driver.

Seven years of production was a total of 2678 made.

In 1990 they stopped making them, they were nothing special.

To some, they are worth more then others, but I've seen them go for 3k-5k

A Cobra or Saleen is worth more.

This is a Grand Prix. Not a Mustang or Capri. I don't think there are many out there. I do rember those cars though. They were meh.

There is no 1992 McLaren Grand Prix. McLaren's were only built 89-90 in coupe trim and the STE (4 door version). There were around 7500 of the coupes built and only 1000 of the STE's.
The same body moulding that was on the McLaren's was still available in '92 - but no turbo cars were made after 1990.

Yeah, it's a 90 coupe. I thought it was a 92 but thats what year Camaro my sister bought when she got rid of the Grand Prix. I couldn't find out how many were made, so thanks for that.

Cool car and rare. Hard to figure what it is worth now, because of the rarity. If you like it and you can swing it, then go for it! Sounds like a fun ride, and with the family history, it will be even more special.
