i ended up just getting an actual lowering spring for it sits about 2 inches lower now.

edit: the tires are just tucked under the fender now giving it the look i was going for. itll look nice with the gtp flair kit once its on.
 
All Gen I w-bodies had the same single transverse mounted leaf spring as the Gen 4 Corvettes had. There are a couple companies that make aftermarket lowering leaf springs for the Gen I Ws. FAF (Flex-A-Form), and Birchmount, who can supposedly make one to your specifications drop-wise. Contact info:

Otherwise, Held and Fast FWD Performance used to make coilovers, but both are discontinued, so you'd have to look around for a used set.

i used eibach in the front and im not sure what the brand mono leaf i got in the rear i got it used for $30..... the tag was worn off. its composite, rather than fiberglass, and its alot stiffer, which was the intended goal.

the original question was if a c6 monoleaf would work c6 is a gen 6 corvette. which it doesnt. the c6 back end is a little wider than the 91 grand prix back end. c4s i didnt know would fit but i also didnt have one laying around.


ill be honest too i forgot all about this thread after i bought the new monoleaf. the car handles alot better now alot more grip. i can take turns at maybe 40 instead of 20 that it could before... granted i had pirelli performance tires on it at the time(doesnt now cuz the tires were for my grand am which i sold).

i used pro kit performance springs id # 3844.140i only ended up using a camber shim which i used a moog shim id #K6481 its a +/- 1 degree shim the back just uses a cam bolt which you just turn to adjust.

Yeah, I knew that was the original question, and I knew it wouldn't fit, but it had been answered already by the time I discovered the thread. I was addressing the confusion about the Gen I GPs, namely, "Didn't the first gen W bodies have two leaf springs mounted transversely", and threw in the bit about it being the same as the C4 just as an FYI. I guess I should have quoted that to begin with to make that clear. :th_embarassed:

i took it back off for the winter cuz itll be a pain to drive in the snow but ill take pics in the spring.

ah ok and technically the late 80s gp is not gen 1..... gen 1 is early 70s not sure of the actual production year though...

I know it's a gen 5 as far as GPs go, but when we refer to GPs, it's usually in reference to the FWD models, thus why we usually refer to them on sites like this as Gen I, as in Gen I w-body.
