85 Turbo Trans Am

Re: 85 trans am!!!

Yes lmao. Looking at getting an engine stand for myself guys asking $50 all black can be fully adjusted to fit a sbc 305 to a 454 and any engine in-between

Re: 85 trans am!!!

Make sure you get the safer type, or at least know what you are dealing with if you get the other kind. The safe type has to legs coming out under the engine, the unsafe one only has one so it is prone to tip over while moving.

Re: 85 trans am!!!

i got this one off my brother. you can buy em new from HF for 45 bucks if need be, not sure of the style they offer tho.

this one is good for a 1000 lbs. my brother had got it for his 464, but ended up not using it.

its wider then a 3800 engine. very stable.

Re: 85 trans am!!!

Nice stands and I went looked at it again its a single leg I'm using my grandfathers single leg one and I have no issues with it but I am very careful with it. As long as it will hold a fully built engine. I may reinforce it make it more stable because I want to turn it in to a test engine stand so I can run the motors break them in and test before going in to the car.

Re: 85 trans am!!!

just make a stand then, it needs a rad and mount throttle battery and all sorts of stuff. id rather have it sitting in motor mounts of some sort vs a turn able engine stand.

use the stand you got as a engine stand.

Re: 85 trans am!!!

My father in law started building one but never finished maybe next time I'm out there I can get him on board with finishing it and give it to me

Re: 85 trans am!!!

if he quit on it im sure he would like to see it finished. maybe he'd help out being he may of had a plan for it already in his mind. or at least tell you what his plans were for it.

Re: 85 trans am!!!

Yep yep help is a two way street. Old ones need enthusiasm, young ones need experience. Takes all together to make the world go roundy round. I know if a young 'un offered me help I'd sure be more willing to return the effort.

I consider my Goodwrench single-leg stand a block holder, it has had a bare 400 casting on it for several years now. With 800 lbs of Pontiac iron on it (a complete engine), well lets just say I don't like it for long because its weak and tippy. A test stand is a completely different thing. I'd start with square tubing and build it from there. Nice examples on the web if you look.

Re: 85 trans am!!!

My grandfather made his engine stand out of square tubing its very stable single leg with complete motor on it. And yea father in law started with a square tube frame on wheels and then has a arm and plate to bolt to back motor like a stand I don't know where he was going with it but its got a good base. I'm doing research now

Re: 85 trans am!!!

Pics, I have a ton of but this is the current one. I was waiting on a steel drive shaft from a buddy to finish up. The projected power output is going to snap my stock aluminum one. This one is off a LT1 car and will hold me over till I can get one made. I hope to be doing a start up real, real soon as long as these other bs pop up home problems don't get in the way.

I had to replace my home ac unit. My wallet is crying....

Re: 85 trans am!!!

I know how house hurts the wallet I just got moved into a rent to own had to repaint whole house have gone through 20 gallons so far of kills looking to go through another 20 had to get a fridge but everything we get is taken off rent right now though so that's nice first months free right now

Re: 85 trans am!!!

Must just be an LS1 tech thing, everyone thinks they are the beez kneez.

Swap an LS6 intake on it, call it good. Save yourself 800 doll hairs and not worry about your fuel rails fitting perfect.

Most guys on the truck website I'm with won't run them because the NNBS/TBSS intakes and the Hi-Rams are better options.
