72 GP SJ with no spark...
Can't I just run 12+ from battery to + side of coil to see if problem is between key and coil or coil and plugs?

I just got this car from my neighbor... it had been in his basement since 1984 he was original owner. I have always had fords but I couldnt turn down a 72 GP SJ with no rust all original 455 12 bolt rear even had build sheet tucked away in door panel. oh yea $1500 got it.

It has standard coil with standard points dist.
I have changed oil, tranny fluid, plugs, wires, points & cond, and coil

I got no spark, had no spark before changin coil and points.

How do ya test a coil can ya take wire out of dist and hold close to ground and see a spark?

Any help or sugestions would be greatly apreciated.

Welcome to the forums. Happy to have you here. Would tell you to post up in the correct section, but don't believe we have one for the older GP's. Nice find and purchase by the way. would love to see some pics of it. Does your coil have a good ground? It's hard for me to really say on anything else without being there to trouble shoot. Good lick with her though.

yes you should be able to connect them. one to your ignition switch, so when the key is on.. you will have power to the coil. but you could connect them directly if you wanted... but you would have ahard time turning the car off.... without an interupt.

Welcome to the forums!! post some pics when you get a chance!

I figured it out... old points coroded new points not opening
once I set the points to .019 and they actualy opened and closed I got my 12v to the coil
