I tried installing a pair of Infinity Reference 6x9's in the rear deck and they won't fit! The metal "baskets" on the back of the speaker won't fit through the opening, and now the speakers stick up about 1/4". What the hell am I supposed to do about this?

what he's referring to is the plastic parts that go around the speaker. they go from the top of the speaker, down towards the base. I had the same problem on a grand am gt with some 6x9 kenwoods. I couldn't figure it out, so took it to a shop. they just took some pliers, and bend the metal downward all the way around until the hole was big enough. You could also take a dremel and hollow out the opening. These same 6x9 kenwoods, fit perfect in my grand prix with no modification though......

I have an 06 GXP.. maybe the openings are different? The stocks are definitely 6x9 openings. It's just that the hole that the bottom of the speaker sticks through down into the trunk isn't big enough for the back of the Infinity speaker. I will have to cut away at the metal opening to make it fit! I will take some pics shortly.

thats weird on my 05 best buy never had a problem with installing my infinity kappa 6x9s. then again i prly shouldnt have let them do it to begin with cuz my $300 Pioneer touch screen head unit only works when it wants too. Prbly cuz those idiots hooked it up to my parking lamps instead of my turn signal sooo yea they suck... sry im ranting here lol
