6 Disc Monsoon Question

Hey Guys,

I purchased a 6-disc monsoon player. Had it programmed at the dealer for 42 bucks. Took about 45 minutes. My question to you guys, is there a way to activate the XM on it? I had xm active on my old radio I pulled out of my car so I know all the equipment is there. The dealer guy is certain that the 6-disc didn't have it available. I would beg to differ. If I click through the Bands I only get FM 1, 2 and AM. Did he miss something on the tech 2 when he did it. He wants me to keep him posted. My car is non-monsoon but has Xm and On Star on the car. 2004 GTP CompG

Any insight would be highly appreciated.

I press AUX and it doesn't do anything. =( Any Ideas. That's how it was on my radio that I took out of my car.

Thats what the dealer was saying... but argh. I thought they all had XM capabilities. Im going to be bummed out if that's the case. I wanted to keep it all factory. Everything else works fine on it. =) I guess i'll have to find out where the player came out of and find out if that car was equipped.

Were there different versions of the same player? The dealer said it should be in the band...hmm. I wonder why it doesn't work. Do you think he could of unlocked it incorrectly.. Everything else works.

The Radio talkes to the DRR (Digital radio reciver- XM radio) thru the Class 2 Data bus. There is a separate reciever for the XM radio that is located in the trunk. the Reciever then sends the signa thru the Class 2 to the radio to give you your station.

this is the GM Decription and Operation of the XM radio

XM Satellite Radio
XM is a national satellite radio service that offers up to 100 coast to coast channels including music, news, sports, talk and children's programming. XM provides digital quality audio and text information, including song title and artist name. A service fee is required in order to receive the XM service. For more information, contact XM at Welcome to the world of satellite radio - SiriusXM Radio or call 1-800-852-9696.

Digital Radio Receiver
The radio controls communicate with the digital radio receiver via the class 2 communication circuit. The digital radio receiver sends remote radio audio signals to the radio.

Viewing Messages
Press the DISP or RCL button while in XM mode to view various pieces of information related to the current song or channel. By pressing and releasing the DISP or RCL button, you may view four different categories of information: Artist Name/Feature, Song/Program Title, Channel Category, and other Additional Information that may be broadcast on that channel. Additional Information messages may not always be available. If an Additional Information message is being broadcast on the tuned channel, the INFO icon will appear on the display. Each of the four information types may have multiple pages of text. To reach a category, press and release the DISP or RCL button consecutively until the desired type is displayed. If there are multiple pages of text for the selected information type, the radio will automatically display all the pages for that type at a rate of approximately one page every three seconds before timing out and returning to the default display. You may override this feature by pressing the DISP or RCL button to review all of the pages at your own pace.

My suggestion to you would be to take out radio and make sure that all plugs are indeed plugged into radio, you may have to dig deep to make sure, but if your old radio had XM and your new 6 disc has the BAND button than everything should work properly if the technician programmed the car right.

there are only 2 connections and the Antenna. the XM is contained on the Class 2 if something wasnt plugged in then there would be other features that didnt work.

I have a feeling that the radio wasnt programmed correctly

I took the radio out and made sure all the connectors were snug and such. I wrote down a few of the numbers. DKCB was one of them. I have a feeling it was programmed incorrectly or made the earlier ones didn't have it. This one is dated 2/25/2002.

I wonder if they have to match the radio number in the * xxxxxxxxxxx * with the xm setup on the Tech 2? I wish I owned one, the guy doing it wasn't very intelligent to say the least, (not to be rude).

Yup, the deck I took out of my car was the single disc/ with XM Radio. I'm a subscriber. That's why I can't figure it out. It should just either be in Band or CD/AUX. Niether function has XM.

Try one of these two options...

Pull the RFA MOD fuse from the passenger fuse panel start car cycle through the bands then shut car off and put the fuse back in, repeat the process and see if xm returns.

If this does not so the trick pull back the carpet on the left side of the trunk, and unplug the xm module and re plug it back in.

If all these fail unhook the battery for ten minutes and rehook up.

Sometimes the xm modules goes unresponsive and goes missing from the band button. Disconnecting power has solved it in any case ive seen.

The six disc is well capable of XM, as well as the single disc and nav.
Ive added XM on my 04 with single disc, and on my06 with 6 disc and when I upgraded to nav the xm stayed as well.

As long as the radio has a "band" button it is factory xm capable,If it has only an am/fm button it is not capable.

Typically model year 03 and up radios are xm capable.

Disconnecting the battery won't lock the radio back up will it if I need to go to this route? I'm nervous to unhook the battery.

Nope not at all, The radios have the VIN programmed into the radio itself which is what the dealer did when they relearned your radio :)

It is only when the vin mis matches that of the car that you have to get money sucked out of your wallet.

I would try the fuse first as it's the most easiest of all.

Tried the fuse and it didn't work =/
I will have to try the XM Module tomorrow when its warmer, i couldn't get the connector unplugged. Is it the blue one im trying to unplug? If that doesn't work I'll go ahead and disconnect the battery.

I hope one of these two remaining solutions work. It was the whole idea to get the 6 disc to get a nicer player with more features ;)

Thanks Again!

Hey, it will be the one with abunch of wires(black), The blue one if it has two wires coming out if for the antenna only.

Just curious if you tried putting in your single disc to try? if you do it will not affect any theftlock at all since both of them have your vin memorized inside them.

I think you were saying the date code on your six disc is 2002?

if it is where did you get your radio from and is there a part number on it?

If someone took a defective04-08 grand prix six disc radio and took the mainboard from say a 2002 gmc envoy six disc radio it would give the same issue as the 02 would not have xm capability.

The single disc that I pulled out that had Xm is dated November 2002.
I bought it from Explicit_Spade he bought it from someone else. So its possible it doesn't have it I suppose.

I didn't look at other specifics.
