When the splines on the 4th clutch hub go does the car have to be driven around in 3rd to prevent the car from shifting into 4th can you just leave it in D and it knows not to upshift?

wont matter if theres no 4 th gear splines left. run it in D

Ok thanks. I was just curious because I've always run my car in D and its never shifted into 4th so I thought maybe there was a chance just a solenoid needed to be replaced. I really don't feel like pulling the side pan off to replace the shaft if i'm gonna attempt a manual swap.
