4t65e Strange gear selector issue

I have a 4t65e in a 2007 impala ss(5.3L LS4) I have rebuilt the transmission, the car does not register park on the dash therefor the car does not start in park(will start in neautral) but as well as this the gears on the selector seem to be off by a half of a gear. Reverse is in between park and reverse, neutral is between reverse and neutral ect all the way down to 1st gear. I have a sneeky feeling the two are related. (On a side note I am pretty mechanicly inclined so dont be afraid to lay it on me) Any help is very appreciated. TIA

Is the external range selector installed correctly?

I found this older thread that might help give you some ideas. Gear selector is a gear off after rebuild

07 Has an internal range switch that I never removed( I left the shift lever in during rebuild).
