I've heard of the done before, anyone do it? I imagine it takes a couple guys to life it in there. Will the deck lid close? I plan on doing this in a couple weeks. I plan on removing all the carpet, take out the spare tire and jack out of the well... and laying down some blankets. Any suggestions? I hope ass squat ain't too bad...

The guy that I bought my spare tranny from brought it to me in the trunk of his GTP all the way from OKCY area. It did take both of us to get it out of there though. I dont remember how much it made it squat down though.

shoot you can fit more than a trans in the trunk...

^that same trunk (94 olds cutty Before rear engine) hauled a intake to pan 350sbc from jefferson WI to palatine IL.
65e/hd will fit into a GP trunk no problem, a 4t80e wont (we tried lol)

Awwww comeon, a little snip there, a little hammering there and Im sure the 4T80 could e shoehorned in there, LOL.

dont laugh... i do beileve the 80's are done/in progress (at least the front, think the rear engine, too eventually) --- turbocharged406sbc has a TON of pics on the local ilgpc board, including case modding the 4T80e to fit the wbody 3800 (not to mention the INSANE ammount of polished items in the engine bay(s)

:D

What would be the advantage of being able to put a 4T80E in our car over the 4T65E?

make a forum for the 4t80e so i can post my and jeff's (pontiacJeff on bonnevilleclub.com) info

IS is bigger, dry sump (1 primary, 1 secondary-perfect for a trans brake, and 1 scavenge oil pump), 4th gear clutch hub is 4 times the size of the 65 and the 4th gear clutch packs can EASILY hold full boost in 4th gear, equal length acxles eliminate Tq steer

and its only 65lbs heavier than the 65ehd

4t80e vs 4t60e :D

I stand corrected, and I agree that a new forum would be a great idea as these tranny's are in the GXP's.......

what do ya say Scotty?

let me know when you guys get done making a kit to put one in a wbody!!!!!

trust me ya'll will know when the swap is ready...though its not a bolt in deal and requires significant reworking it's deffinatly worth it in my eye
it took us a while but we found a good GM reman 4t80e outta a burn victim in the Jyard...paid 150$ and i'm damn sure that it'll hold up to the same power as a 5k 65eHD even though it requires solid 4 corner mounts (yes we're putting motor plates on a FWD drivetrain lol) and other reworking
which do you think a redneck would go fer? ;)

Holy cow, thats like David and Goliath in comparison.

Use an aluminum cradle and you could make up a lot of that weight gain.
get a 4t80e forum up and i'll show you alot more david vs goliath pics of the internal parts.

by ditching the 4th gear and a couple other things reworked in the dragwhore we're looking at a 3 spd 4t80e weighing the same if not less than the 65eHD.

Just curious as to why it would take a couple people to lift it into the trunk?

I don't know the specific answer, but I do know from experience that a TH350 will fit in the trunk of a 87 Olds Delta (FWD). A 440-T4 will fit in the trunk of an 93 Buick Lesabre. And a 440-T4 will also fit in the trunk of an 87 Riviera. These I have done. And lifted myself every time. Trans are not that heavy if the fluid is out of them and the convertor is off. Even if it is not, one guy should be more than able to lift it in.

I guess I must be weaker than I thought cause I cannot lift the spare 4T65E I have. I wanted to put it up on a bench I have to work on it and it just aint happening by myself.

in many ways it's better on your back, less likely to drop/break the trans or otherwise damage the trunk opening

i was a "badass" when i was younger, now at 27 i'm regretting some of the stupid **** i've done by myself. i hope that i'd keep at least one person from being as stupid as I

I can understand that, as I have learned from many thing I did in my younger years. But I am only 25, and maybe still ignorant. But I find it easier to just do things like this myself rather than bother someone else to drive 20 minutes to my house to help me.... I guess I just don't want to bother them.
