4T60e shreds planetary gears

Rebuilt 4t60e in 97 gp gt about 1600 miles ago, differential looked good and was tight with fresh spider gears.
The loud roaring sound that resembled a really bad wheel bearing turned out to be shredded planetary gears
on the differential,my foot is heavy, but I would appreciate any other suggestions as to what else could have
caused this kind of damage. I'm hoping that the shrapnel went straight into the pan and was stopped by the
filter, didn't see any in the diff. cover.
I was planning on dropping the pan and using carb cleaner to flush the diff. area, then replace fluid and filter.
Do you guys think that would be sufficient,or should I tear the whole thing down and start over?

Pull the diff and inspect the final drive ring gear. Had one that was missing a few teeth and kept chewing up planetaries. Also, check all the Torrington bearings and such while you're in there.

No prob. For your sake I hope it's not the ring gear. It's the last thing that comes out of the trans during a rebuild. Has to go out the other way

I should tear it all down anyway,to remove the metal.
The possibility of being able to heard all of the shrapnel into the pan with some cleaner seems pretty slim to me.
