I have purchased some type R 5 1/4 and 6x9 speakers.
So... my question is how much would i benefit from replacing the 4" rear deck speakers as well?

the so called stock 6x9s put out so called bass...and the 4s put out highs...the type rs are good 3 way speakers.i left my 4s out when i replaced my 6x9s...just left a hole in back dash.if u do this and have a sub box.u will get much better bass response out of subs seeing is how the bass will have 2 more ports to escape out of.my opinion is leave the 4s out either way.i have memphis 5 1/4s and memphis 6 x 9s...and get all the high and mid i need outta them.

Thanks gtpinsc, I installed my setup as you recommended.I was impressed by the difference these new speakers made. The only real problem i had was rewiring the front speakers.

no problem man...im confused as to why u had wiring probs for front speakers...those were the easiest for me...they have the little connectors that just slide over the posi and ground contacts.did u run a amp to them?if so i see where ur comin from. :th_thumbsup-wink:

Yes i did, it was really a learning experience for me in wiring. Not I'm just worried about how the car will cope with the extra load.

Stock deck, Pioneer Amp (4 channel) and the Alpine Speakers i previously mentioned.

oooooo u would get sooooooooo much better sound out of a new deck.i always reccomend pioneer premier...its not the cheapest but very user friendly.i paid close to 400 for my premier like 3 years ago never had any problems out of it.

Since you already have subs, wouldn't it be better just to put 6.5's in place for the 6x9. There more well balanced and will get louder and stay louder and last longer.

Probably but, it's too late for that now unfortunately.
I may get a new deck if i did I would probably get an Alpine iDA-X200 for my ipod.

What will happen if i reconnect my factory tweeters? It said on the box 2 tweeters in parallel can cause a fault.

Buy a cap, i have a 2400 watt system in my 'pala,. The w bodys make alot of power, but have a slow drain i find. With a capacitor, my light don't flicker and it evens out the load on the car..

Would a capacitor be fairly safe? A friend told me to use some fuseable links so a fuse would break when the load was too much.

ye, when you buy the wires for the cap, make sure you have a 'Power distrubution box" thats were the fuses are.

yeah caps are great too for holding off on buying an upgraded alternator, I've got a 5 farad cap in my car with my system and HID'S and 3 amps, and I havent had problems yet with dimming while running the stock ALT
