3rd blown CV Boot in past one and a half years....

As the title says, I was swapping out my factory, winter rims, with my summer rims and I discovered my driver side CV Boot closest to the rotor blew AGAIN!!! I do not know what the hell is going on with this, but I have some ideas.

1. I did lower my car about 2 years ago with my SSC Gen II lowering springs, accompanied with KYB AGX struts.

2. I had my tranny replaced/rebuilt entirely about a year and a half ago.

3. Or this GTX is just cursed.

Frankly I am going with #1 in fact that maybe, well I know actually, the geometry was changed when I lowered my car. But in my doubts that this is the problem is the fact I am almost the same setup on my 98 GP GT and I never had one blown CV boot in the three years it was lowered. But with this new setup, the difference being the AGX's it seems I am running into more problems than ever before, and quite frankly I am tired of popping out my axles and replacing them every year.

Solutions? I would love to hear people's suggestions on what to do to correct the problem.

My thoughts on the solution, would be find those pieces of machined aluminium to raise the engine block to recorrect the angle of the axle in accordance to the CV joint. Maybe for some reason the AGX's ride different thus putting more pressure on the outter CV Boots? Cause in all three cases so far, only the outter CV Boot is getting blown apart.

Please anyone chime on this problem. Also if anyone knows the link to where I can find those spacers? Please let me know!!!

Many thanks in advance!

James, so your saying that you lowered your car and you havent put vinnie engine/tranny spacers on there? Do you have shorter dogbones to pull the engine forward? (im thinkin no cuz i remember u having zzp billet ones).

thats your problem right there if i am guessing correctly. Your car is lowered a good amount, then you add the weight of people to the car and that CV boot is at a bad angle. :th_lipssealed1:

Well these are the RATT dogbones, basically the same I am sure. I know in my old GT I only had the stocker dogbones in there and I never had a problem with Axles then. Maybe the even the stock dogbones are better than the RATTs, obviously something is causing a problem somewhere.

I guess either I have to get Vinnie's spacers or go back to my stock dogbones to eliminate the problem ugh!

Soooooooooooooooooooo frustrating!

in all honesty, i would get those spacers. You're car has got a pretty big drop, and i think the shorter dogbones are for people who are minimally lowered. i feel better knowing the engine/tranny is lifted up rather than just tilting the engine further forward. Doing that makes it seem like the engine is at a weird angle or in a bind.

i heard those spacers are a fairly simple install. just jack up the car, lower on jack stands, jack up the engine with the jack and a big 2x4 and raise the engine up to slide the spacer on over the engine/tranny mounts.

Well honestly, when I had my old GT, it had the KYB GR-2 and SSC Gen II lowering springs on it. It shares almost the identical drop that the GTX has now, but I never blew out any CV boots. I had the stock dogbones in the GT while I have had RATTs in the GTX actually longer than I have had the car lowered.

So I am guessing the RATTs are not obviously helping the situation. I could switch back to the stocker bones, but I love the look of the RATTs.

Thanks for the input Tyler :)

Thanks for the link Shawn. I was thinking it was Don Rome instead of Vinnie who had those things. Don had the brackets for the GMPP sway bars :)

I sent him a PM asking if he has any available or not :)

Thanks!

I do beleive he has a few left per his posting. Let me know if you get them i am considering getting them too. That 3/4 of an inch engine lift if you will makes me worrie about my hood clearance with my hood.. :th_scratchhead:

Well I think as long as you are not intercooled it should not be a problem.

I will find out hopefully sooner than later about them. Cause I keep throwing money away on Axles.

Just out of curiosity... Could it be the cotter pin for the lower ball joint? I know mine are pretty close and if bent the wrong way could possibly come in contact with boot and rip it... Just a thought.
