3800 performance stage 3 package

i have a 04 grand prix gtp comp g and im looking for just some simple upgrades. intake exhaust etc. when i found this kit from 3800 performance. has any one purchased this setup and what will i need to pay attention too, (ie KR, changing plugs, which pulley size, t-stat temp, etc.) i believe the PCM is programmed to eliminate KR. any help and insight would be greatly appreciated. im a technician but im sure there are people on this board who have the mod process fine tuned haha.
this is what the stage 3 package comes with:

3.4 or 3.25 pulley
reprogrammed digital hp pcm
cat back exhaust
cold air intake
160 or 180 thermostat.

also should i be looking at any other parts to even everything out and maximize power with what i have? thanks!

You're going to need more than that to run a 3.4 pulley. Thats no where near enough to run a 3.25.

To run a 3.5 pulley on an 04+ GP you need at least intake, pcm, thermo, spark plugs, headers or downpipe/plog combo. You "might" be able to run a 3.4 after rockers.

Best way to tell is to scan. you need to get a scanner first. Catback won't do much if anything for performance.

thats the info im looking for. im not looking for huge power gains, just a little more power, sound, and looks. what would be a wise option for a little more power without breaking the bank?

Something that gives our car that unique sound is def a Wizaired CAI i have one of these baby's and i love stepping on the gas everychance i get. Also a bigger exhaust.

for a step in the performance direction while keeping reliability and driveability i think youre looking towards the basic 3.5/3.4 setup that people run when they are first starting off. the easiest way to run that is with these parts:

3" downpipe (w/ u-bend delete, keep the cat if you want)
front powerlog
colder thermostat
colder spark plugs
intake
and either a 3.4 or 3.5 pulley, but since you have a genV probably a 3.5

thanks bio248, thats exactly what im looking for! im not gonna go balls to the walls on my gp, just give it a litte attitude. ive got a racecar and many projects to spend my big money on. i will prolly go with the 3.5 and keep the cat. what is the front power log tho? never heard of it or anything.

it is a replacement for the front exhaust manifold sold by ZZP. the downpipe/u-bend are the first most restrictive part of the exhaust. the second is that front manifold. those two items (downpipe and powerlog) will open up a bunch of flow for you.

the powerlog will help you out a lot man. my compg loves it. The mods in my sig are the same as what bio told you. I'm dropping to a 3.6 pulley first then scanning. If everything is good ill go to a 3.5. You might want to go with the Autolite 104's rather than the 605's. I'm concerned whether or not if they are going to hold up or not. The 605's are one degree colder than stock and the 104's are two degree colder than stock, so you know.

Comp G's don't have U-bends in the stock downpipe.

those packages are stupid. dont buy them. you will have insane knock with just that! ESPECIALLY WITH THE 3.25

are the reogrammed PCM's from ZZ worth getting if i go with a 3.5 or 3.6, plog, intake, 180 stat, colder plugs, and a little cat back (i know theres not a lot of power from it, its just for a little attitude.) i have easy access to a tech2 to watch KR also which i will do after mods. also will the stock downpipe be ok since it does not have a u-bend?

Beware of zz pee's pcm's. Look into an Overkill's locked pcm. With that setup you should be good, just keep an eye on that KR :th_thumbsup-wink:. Imo headers would be better for dropping pulley sizes.

i dont feel like coughing up that much for a set of headers. i got a half torn apart racecar sittin in the shop that needs some attention so im on a little budget lol. i will look into the overkill pcm. thanks and keep the info coming! its greatly appreciated

youre going to want that downpipe if you want to drop pullies. it is the MOST restrictive part of the exhaust. i would get the downpipe before i got a powerlog.

I just ordered a u-bend delete with my ceramic coated powerlog, and a ported rem. I also ordered the ceramic coated crossover. Because I will be returning the U-bend, was the crossover a waste of money also?

the downpipe should replace the whole section (including the cat) that goes from the collector to the catback.
