35W vs 55W???

Is there a big difference between the 35W and 55W Hid's??? I currently have the 35W with 10,000K bulbs but I just got my projectors and need to order a new kit and I'm torn. I'm going with 8,000K this time because I do like the slight blue, especially with the Halos and Led's ;) I'm just wondering if there is enough difference between the 2 kits???
 


I had a 35w kit in mine... the difference in output wasnt much greater when i had to buy a 55w new kit cause of dead bulbs. And plus with 55w you take risk of melting like Doug mentioned.
 
35 is all you need. I would recommend 5000K in them. I had that in mine when I had projectors and they were white with just a hint a blue.
 


Ok I will for sure get the 35W then, I just wanted to make sure that the 55W wasn't better quality or something but I don't want any melting issues. Thanks for the info!
 
If they are Morimoto Mini H1s for sure do not get 55w, because it will melt the shroud and 35w is still enough to be blinding in a projector.

She's using projectors, she's not going to blind anyone if they're aimed correctly. I had 55w's in my projectors and never had a problem.. and no, they didn't melt my housings. You guys need to stop reciting sh*t you read on the internet.

I noticed a 55w kit outputed a much whiter color then my 35w kit. I also noticed an increase in intensity of the light, therefore a better light output. Honestly though, I would get a VVME 55w kit in 5000K. That should be the nicest white and output you can get. Make sure you 100% have a relay harness attached to that kit though. You will melt your stock wires if you don't have a relay, and even if they work without a relay, over time, from them warming up and drawing the extra power needed to get to the right color, it will wear out your wires. Have had plenty of friends go through that.
 


55's glare alot more nawar, cmon you know that. they also operate hotter. sure, they do produce better colors and the light output is better, but not by much. but the main problem i got with them is that 55W ballasts are not as efficient as 35W ballasts meaning that you will have shorter ballast life given that the ballast has to work harder.
 
They glare more yes. I will agree to that. But I had them in a projector housing and never had anyone flash me because of them. I'd never suggest putting them in a reflector housing though. That's basically homicide towards oncoming drivers. I also didn't notice much difference in how hot they were. I mean sh*t I ran them for over 6 months and never had the housing melt.

But yea they are not as efficient, I had a ballast go out pretty quickly, not sure from it being a 55w ballast or because of shock and abuse? But hey, DDM has a lifetime warranty on their ballasts and bulbs, so I got a new ballast for the price of shipping. :D
 
They glare more because they're brighter. Technically if you had good projectors and a good housing lens, you'd have no "glare" at all. Glare is a reflection, and that was the original point of projectors. Project light, not reflect it.
 
I have had HID's for a couple years now and never used the relay harness. If I am going with the 35W kit for my projectors do I really need it?
 
I just reread the original post. Why do you need a new kit? The H1 bulbs will work on the same ballast as the 9007 bulbs. Go ahead, order some bulbs and tell me I'm wrong. I'll tell you that you're a liar.
That's what I did anyway, I did a retro, needed H1 bulbs, projectors came with them, plug and play.

Also, 10000k is awful. Get 5000k or 6000k, you'll enjoy how much better you see the road and how much less oncoming traffic hates you.
 


I wouldn't use 55w unless it's w/ a proper projector. 55w glare more and does produce more heat even if it's aimed properly can still be a issue w/ other drivers. After about 20 hours or so the bulbs will color change about 1000 lumens so if you started w/ 6k it eventually will color shift and appear around a 5k level keep that in mind. 55w...will also wear faster.The bulbs you use will play a huge part in what lumens is produced. Cheaper bulbs will also provide a lot of hot sports but that's also can be effected by the projector itself. I'll be the first one to tell you to do a proper retrofit if it was a option but w/o going that route I say 35w either 5k or 6k and a quality bulb and properly aimed headlights and you should be fine. Using 10k your hurting yourself as far as output is concerned.

Edit: Lets not be a dick and blind oncoming cars.
 
A relay harness is ONLY $10-15, and makes it so your ballasts always fire up, and prolongs the life of them. Also takes the stress away from your stock wires. I honestly will never hook up an HID kit to my car without a relay harness. It's too cheap NOT to have.
 
Right, so that said, $15 for a harness, $30-40 for 5000-6000k bulbs and you'll be back in business with good output.

Again, you DON'T need new ballasts to switch from 9007 to H1.
