3 piston Corvette calipers?

Hey guys I'm in the middle doing my big ass build and needless to say in my hunt for 600HP I'm in need of some awesome brakes but I don't want to get away from the 16"rim for drag tires. I was looking into doing the Corvette calipers because there a lil more stout/lower profile than the f-body from what I hear, but then I ran into the 3 piston Corvette calipers and was curious if anyone had put them on our cars (00 gtp) under 16"rims or not. If so do you still use the f-body brakets, pads, and rotors or? All help is appreciated guys. Thanks

To my knowledge nobody has ever done any 3 piston calipers. The 6 piston CTS-V calipers yes, but those require 18s with specific offsets at a minimum.
The F-body calipers will work just fine for what you want. After all, there are tons of people who run the F-bodies and Vettes up to 600hp and still have good stopping ability with stock calipers and good pads/rotors. Consider the difference between F-body calipers and corvette calipers in the same year range was casting and price.

If it were me and you wanted to stick with 16s for racing, just get the F-body calipers, good quality pads, and solid rotors. I would also replace all 5 rubber lines with new stainless steel braided lines and flush the lines and run all new fluid. If you can't stop with them after that you probably need to consider a parachute.

:th_thumbsup-wink:

To add to that, two locals have the typical vette calipers and my car with f bodies stops better than either of them.

Really? I figured the vette would be a lil better than the f-body, but there I go thinking again lol. I already have the steal lines bought and hawk HPS pads I've just been tryin to figure out a good rotor to go with...any recommendations? Lol

R1 Concepts or Centrics tend to be the most recommended.

I have the R1s and love them, but don't have alot done to my car and DD it mostly. Not much racing so :th_shrugshoulders:

you can get drilled and slotted... but unless youre road track racing it, it wont make a difference in stopping ability.... just find a good set of new/gently used 12s and call it good.

I bought the R1 drilled slotted elines and a set of pads from them. Currently there are 55K DD abusive miles on them. The rotors have no rust, some super small spider cracks at the holes. I wouldn't go with the holes again, seemed cool at the time. I would definately go with R1 w/o question when these do go. When I say abusive, I take locals out all the time and show them the beauty of the F body. Make them slam them on etc from 60mph etc. Plus I like fast cornering and stops, it's fun to shake up the passengers.

Have a buddy with a Bonneville (97) and he swears by the R1's for not warping etc. That year is seriously undersized for rotors. My Bonne would warp a set in under a month, I was going to try the R1's...then sold the car.

Supposedly R1 takes a centric blank and has it coated further.

I'm not easy on my S/D R1s either, but less than 30k on them so they still look great.

Will definitely buy another set for my upgrade to 12" F-Body brakes.

I'd think with the corvette calipers, you'll also be happy with the stopping power.

One thing I did note when looking at F bodies etc. Some said they had odd pedal feel and I noted that when I drove the two corvette caliper cars. Haven't felt it on mine, maybe I'm too used to it though. The F body and likely the vette as well have much bigger feed lines and a bigger master to push that fluid. It may be that while we can use the calipers, we aren't feeding them fast enough to get the same results as the big boys.

Thanks for the help guys its nice to talk with some people that have first hand experience with em and its greatly appreciated too. I'ma pry wind up with some firebird callipers I saw, r1 rotors, and some hawk hps pads plus I already got all stainless braided lines so i should be set.... Thanks again guys

C6 calipers, HP Plus pads, and Pep boys "Premium" rotors--no slots or holes, just a nice finish and they replace them if you potato chip them. Oh, and braided lines too. The HP Plus pads squeal at light application, they make some dust, but they DON'T fade or wear quickly. After break-in I found an open stretch of multi lane and tested them against the Anti-lock from about 90 to 40 Five(5) times in a row. No noticeable fade, no bad smell, and no rotor degradation, visible or otherwise. Clean freaks won't like the dust. Performance/$ It's a winning combo. Running Michelin Pilots on stock wheels. I had posted photos some time back, ever since I spread "Clam-shelled" a pair of F-Body calipers.
