3 letter code on side of tranny?

I have a 2000 GTP that needs a new tranny. I'm calling local junk yards but they want a 3 letter code off the side of the tranny. I know it's a 4t65e-hd, but how do I find this 3 letter code with the tranny on the car?

The tag you are looking for will be on the back passenger end of the trans, by the differential cover.

You may have to get a rag and wipe it down real good to be able to see it the grime kinda builds up on it.

GP 98-02
Bonneville 00-02
Regal 98-02
PA Ultra 00-02

Call local stealership with your vin and they will be able to tell you what your code is.

Thanks everyone. What's the purpose of the 3 letter code? Does it identify the different thread fittings?

I think it identifies if the trans has an internal vs external gear selector, gear ratio, hd or not and click vs threaded fittings
