3 button DIC to 5 button swap questions

ive done some searching and i cant seem to find anything that gets into the specifics about doing this. i have a 2004 GTP and it has the 3 button DIC. i want to put a 5 button in and i have some questions. i know that the chances of finding one with the same milage is going to be slim to none so i would have to get that reset. how would i got about doing so? just go to a gm dealer? i saw some threads on here with a little bit of information about it but not that much, they were also from a few years ago so now with the pontiac line sadly discontinued idk if it will have an affect. i know i would need the surrounding bezel to fit the 5 button. does the DIC just plug in and im good to go? would the year of the DIC have an affect on it? say i found one from a 2005-2008? or 3800 n/a vs one from a supercharged car or even a gxp. im just trying to get as much info as i can before i jump into it blindly. ill post more questions if i have them as i think of them. thanks.
