This is my first 3.1L but not my first GM. Had a 2.8 in my S-10 14 years ago. So is there any surprises on changing out the intake gaskets upper and lower? and is there a build thread on here? If not I may make one up. If and when i have to do it to mine.

there is no build thread, not sure about the intake gasket question though. i never tried going that far with my 3.1 lol

hope you never have to do one,get a book at any parts place, they are a pitta, lots of little surprizes,to much to list, about 9 hrs.

9 hours? Really.....I have done some intake jobs before, and most of them were 2 to 4 hours. It might take me 6 since I have never pulled this one apart. But i have done a headgasket job on a 2.8 Regal though.

Just replaced mine. Definitly not 9 hours if you do it all at once. Umm.... would definitly say there is a lot more work involved than in any other ingine lol. I will try to trace what is involved. Might not be in the same order, but I will try lol. Coil pack has to come off. Brackets[if your car has them they are like black bars running along the sides]. Obiously the battery which involves removing the washer fluid resevoir. Undo the throttle body. Upper intake manifold. [duh] Altenator well move it out of the way. Fuel Rail and injectors. and then the lower intake manifold. I believe that is it. Hope this helps(:

If you move any of the push rods on the 3.1L make sure they go back in the exact same spot. I have seen alot of people break or bend them on accident.

if you have the 3.1 multi port in your gp,deff. easier to work on then the newer 3.1 sfi which is in my 01,too much crap on these cars :th_winking:

just to make sure... which 3.1 are you talking about? cuz theres 2. a pre 94 and a post 94. their basically the same minus a few details. takes probably 6 hours total. ive done it on both, so i can help with any questions.

edit... sorry didnt see the second page.... either way i can help.... sfi or mpfi.

heres a tip with the sfi... pull the power steering pump... itll make life alot easier....

so im assuming this can be done with out pulling the heads,i have 102,000 on my 01 se,not leaking yet but would like to do them anyway, one of our salesmen has a 01 se and had his lim done twice in one year, then the engine blew, nice mechanic he had, must have been ass certified..
