2800 HP Camaro wreck

That car doesnt have 1 good part left on it. Good thing he had all the safety equipment to save him.

The suprising amount of whats left of that car makes a nascar wreck all of a sudden look petty IMO! And you can bet this car was built with far less of a budget and research/development than the nascar clowns have at their disposal.

Well nascar cars are meant to shred to pieces. It allows the car to absorb impacts by crumpling and disintegration around the driver, rather than transfer that impact directly to the driver and his roll cage. Sucks about the Camaro though, at least the driver is ok.

Am I an asshole for wanting to see the video of the crash? I know they recorded it, they record every run, just not posting to the web, for obvious reasons.

I am glad the driver was ok, that result is horrible, but the car looks fantastic for the speed it was going. It really was well built for safety, and it shows. Hopefully they can build another and try again next year. Good was it was one of the fastest cars to run the strip and set in a very high speed on a previous run.

I am local to the shop, car, etc and not too far from the event. Some other people have video. They will come out in time. This car and the shop has had some drama around it recently. Some local guys who witnessed the wreck claim the front splitter came off and went under the car starting the accident. This could be why the shop is trying to keep videos from getting out.

This was just posted in a local section of another forum by someone who has always been honest and knows many of the people involved.

"I've seen the only existing video, from outside the car, showing the entire run. It did not take off or lift. Whoever said that was incorrect. It was just the opposite, the nose and the rocker panels were dragging on the ground past the 1/2 mile marker. Too much down force on the nose. It dug into the surface, then took a hard left turn into the grass. At least 8 barrel rolls once it hit the grass. It landed right side up when it stopped rolling, then caught on fire.

The way this track is set up, there isn't any spectator access past the 1/2-mile point.

In-car footage was damaged/lost. Cameras got messed up."
