255 tires

Right now I am running 225x55x17 on my 2000 gtp. will 255x45x17 or 255x50x17 work? will they rub in the front?

the only reason is a good deal on them (free to almost free) and my 17's are pretty high offset I think 35 or 40...

Stock 225/55/17 are 26.74" in diameter. 255/45/17 are 26.03" in diameter. 255/50/17 are 27.04" in diameter.

Neither of those 255 sizes are optimal. 245/50/17 is the optimal size if you want to go wider. It is 26.65" in diameter.

Simpler than that...

55% versus 45% ofthe same width. Width is 225mm.

Difference is 10% of 225, difference is therefore 22.5mm in section height.

Near enough to one inch.

Overall diameter has TWO section heights, so overall diameter change is... almost two inches.

I'd be interested too if they rub, I'm looking at a deal for 255/40/17 ( ~ 2.5 % shorter) with high offset. I ran 245/45/17 on a set of bullets and they didn't rub. tires were not tall enough.

Those would be way too small, that is only like a 25" tire instead of the 26.7 that a 245/50/17 or 225/60/16 is

OP is looking to run 255 not 225.

FWIW i have 245/45(maybe?)/17 on bonneville rims and all 4 tires rub on the plastic guards. (have 225s in garage but found out left drivers rear rim has a crack, ugh)
