235/50/17

Now I've been running 225/55/17s for years now and I love them but im bout to get some new tires and im thinking of going a bit wider.

A lot of people tell me 225/55/17s are a good look and I know a lot of you on here actually run 235/50/17s (for you who have 17s) which is the perfect size without having any problems.

I like how 225/55 snuggly fits my car without any rubbing giving it a perfect stance but my car is asking for any more grip that it can get. 50 is slightly shorter than 55 whereas you probably couldn't tell the difference but still I hate the thought of going any shorter but ill sacrifice some height for a lil bit more wider tire.

Now I've seen 245/55/17s available for my car on Tirerack.com but im not sure if it'll fit my car without rubbing (this is the size I really want and tirerack actually says it'll fit my car)

Funny thing is that I have 245/35/20s on my LS and they look nice with the acception of hitting the fender(only during parking though).

With that being said, im curious if 245/55/17s would rub and or 245/50/17s? If they do rub im totally down for 235/50/17s. Also, How well will these 235/50/17s fit?

Thanks

225/55/17 is 26.74" tall (stock size)
235/50/17 is 26.25" tall (shorter than stock)
245/50/17 is 26.65" tall (similar to stock height, 20mm wider)
245/55/17 is 27.61" tall (almost 1" taller than stock)

I've got the 245/50/17 on my car and it fits perfectly and there's no rubbing at all, not even when parking.

I have 235-55r17 on mine and it just rubs when turning all the way to one or either side, just enough to leave a mark on the back of the fender, not a concern at all.

Stock comp-g wheels too.

Cool....

245/50/17s will be my choice for sure, giving me more grip....plus with the overall tire size being close to what I have now will also maintain my current car stance that I love.

But I definitely won't go any less than the 235/50/17s

My 225/55/17 don't rub at all so the 245/50/17 shouldnt rub either, hopefully. From 225-245 width is a nice jump for our cars, daily driving anyway..... but should have enough space to compensate for the width of the 245/50/17

Nice, both are sitting pretty good. Any pics from the side view? I wanna see that sidewall look.

Are you guys lowered or have struts that may sit you lower than the stock height/stance?

Just asking bc my GM performance struts are a fraction of an inch lower

So ima take a wild guess and say that going from a 225/55/17 to a 245/50/17 will not improve the contact patch on the tire. What do you guys think?

I know a wider tire should help with cooling(lol which should help with traction anyway), but that actual tire footprint is What I need

Yes they are 17's, the 245's definitely seem to be wider than my 225's were if thats what you mean by footprint. Traction from what I can tell is much better also.

Tons of traction with 255's, only problem I ran into was bumpsteer and "tramlining" which I have been pretty well adjusted to anyway having way wider than stock tires on just about everything I have ever owned.

I'm running 245/50/17s and really like them. I'm on a 8.25" +25 rim with coilovers and after rolling the fenders these don't rub but just a little on the fender liner when I've got the wheel turned all the way.

Sandman you look lowered a bit, but I wanted to see Anthony Smith car from the side too....he has those 255/45s

Wait, I'm bout to post a pic of my current 225/55/17 and you guys be the judge of 245/50/17s fitting. Honestly if I can go wider I will, but I know one thing they want some money for these types of sizes.....for new tires anyway
