21st Annual Pontiac Nationals, Norwalk, OH Aug. 3rd-5th, 2012

3 dayys walking sweatin racing laughing eating.. i cant camp in a car... i need a shower... bed and a place to stretch out.. but ok ill wait and see how it plays out

I disagree. It's not disrespectful. If you have a camper and the means to camp, by all means have at it. But there's obvious reasons the Norwalk hotels are full. I'm very sure the gpf hotel-stayers will be stayin late at the track anyway, so honestly it's a sleeping matter anyway. No big deal

Doubtful.....to be honest. Usually what happens is after the festivities are over for the day, we all go out to dinner and tie a load on (except the DD's of course).... then the lamer's go back to the hotel, and the real men/women go back to the track for night-time festivities. Once the track is closed to racing, only people with camping passes can return.........

You guys seem to think that we're all animals who stink after we camp out for a few days..............there's a shower on site, they have a camping ground at the track, it's obviously set up to accommodate camping. If you're okay with staying in a small room with 4 other dudes, I don't see the problem with showering at a camp shower? And stretch out? Where you stretching out in a room with 4 dudes? Believe me you, I've been to my fair share of gathering and shared a room with many people. 4 people in a room and it's CRAMPED, you have everyone's bags, mattresses, etc, etc. You won't be stretching anywhere. Sleeping in your car!?!?! WHY!!!??? We set up tents, you can bring that inflatable mattress if you desire, put it in your tent!

I'm telling you guys, from someone that's done both hotel and camping, camping is a huge part of the experience.

Yea, all the hotels are booked up, I completely understand that. But there are a ton of high-end professional racers that attend this event. By all means, if you got it like that, stay in a hotel! LOL!!! I'd rather spend my cash on mods, beer, and hoes.

Does anybody have any details on the High Performance Pontiac Pavement Pounder Shootout? It sounds like it happens the Thursday night prior to nationals and might be cool to see as well.

I wasn't able to dig up any details on it for 2012.

This is a private track rental that HPP does if someone applies and will be racing at Nationals...Hell one of us could apply and if we get selected its a private track day from what I understand. The application is found here Drivers Wanted For HPP Pavement Pounders Shootout - High Performance Pontiac Magazine and from my understanding they ask you to do a writeup on the car and then you get 3 or 4 passes throughout the day where you have to make a change to something and let them know what that is for the article.

I might apply for it next year, but I don't think we will be able to get in to watch...However Thursday is party in the parking lot day for you Nationals rookies...Here's the scoop no one is allowed to go into the pits until credentials are given Friday morning starting at either 8 or 9 am, but since this event is so large and people come from many states they open up Linder's Lot(a parking lot across from the track) at 12 noon on Thursday and the cars and rigs start rolling in...Last year I think I was number 33 and was waiting in line to get in the lot at 11:30 when we started a 5mph crawl down the road to get into the parking lot...Crazy right, but you want to get a good pit spot or you will end up at the end of the shutdown lane and have to hike or drive to watch the races. I personally pit with friends right in front of the timing towers and can see people crossing the traps. Back to the day in the Linder's lot...This is the day where you catch up with all the people you haven't seen in a year, check out everyone's new rides, play cornhole, bbq, and drink beer. Once you have a number for the parking lot you can come and go as needed the rest of the day or leave for the night and come back in the am for credentials. This may be the best day for you guys that want to go to Cedar point or do something in the area.

Friday morning goes like this at around 8 or 9 am they start calling people's numbers from their position in the parking lot line and then file into the pits for pit choice. Last year it cost $65 for the weekend for racers and I think $35 for your crew members(not bad for 3 days of racing and the potential to win prize money 2 days). Usually by 11 or 12 everyone is in the pits and they have made the first call for a class for time trials. There are usually 3 runs per class on Friday(weather permitting). Once time trials are completed they will call for the Gamblers Race participants(last year entry was $20). They have two classes Box and No Box. The gamblers race is bracket racing across all classes. I made 3rd round last year b4 going .001 red at the tree. We then start partying for the night in the pits unless we make a run to Casa Fiesta(as is tradition).

Saturday morning they will call the cars to the show field and also make first call for time trials and you get 2 time trials on Saturday before eliminations start. If you get knocked out you start partying early and get up the next morning and repeat.

I know this is probably a lot more information that most people need, but thought this might help with the planning of events offsite because if people are coming to race at Nationals you kind of want to be there all three days. This will be my 10th year racing at Nationals.

I forgot to mention there is a swap meet going on all 3 days across the track from the pits over in the showcar field.

Not sure if anyone checked reviews for this place, but next to train tracks and a rubber burning factory smell.... Not looking to wake up at 3 a.m. because of another horrid stench (KCMO)
Days Inn Milan/Cedar Point South (Milan, OH) - Motel Reviews - TripAdvisor

edit... after looking at prices of other places... wtf am I complaining about, going to a drag strip (burnt rubber) and I'm going to be drunk every night (sleep through train)....
