2007 GXP ...The transmission and engine were replaced 2 years ago under manufacturers 100K warranty...now have 35K miles on them. Drived nicely yesterday. started it this morning and will not go in any gear..nada on any gear. The reverse lights do not come on when in reverse. Feels like the shifter is not connected to anything. Trans fluid is nice and clean. Help! :th_scratchhead:

fuse?
cable disconnect?
sensor bs?

Check under the hood and see if the shift linkage is still connected to the tranny I've heard of the linkages wearing out and coming off

ok going to try to figure out where it is located...and taking a look now. Man there is not alot of room to see anything.

BINGO! thanks 02wdave...the shift lingage is connected to the transmission via a cable and the end of the cable has a crappy plastic insert that is worn out and was disconnected from the transmission under the hood just under the break fluid container. replacing the cable would be a pain...probably will put back on and wrap some wire around the tip of the linkage...the plastic innerhousing of the linkage cable is cracked and worn out. Any ideas on how to fix proper?

shez...nothing working to hold the linkage cable onto the transmission...may take to a shop to replace the cable. Just glad the transmission is not gone :)

I think there is a way to replace just that section of cable, thought I just saw it mentioned here on the forum somewhere. Hopefully someone with some GM parts knowledge will chime in. I'd hate to replace the entire cable for nothing.
