2007 Grand Prix XP Build 9/20/2012 Dyno Run UPDATE!!!

Re: VIDEO!!!! 2007 Grand Prix GT XP Cam build UPDATE 3/16/11

custom tune XP cam, double chain, 105 springs IIRC, 42.5 injectors, 3.4 pulley

Re: VIDEO!!!! 2007 Grand Prix GT XP Cam build UPDATE 3/16/11

14.9:1 AFR and unknown timing, cool story.

Probably had something to do with it.

Re: VIDEO!!!! 2007 Grand Prix GT XP Cam build UPDATE 3/16/11

i wasnt looking at my afr gauge when im going 100 down interstate and i havent opened my tune since last year i dont remember

Re: VIDEO!!!! 2007 Grand Prix GT XP Cam build UPDATE 3/16/11

3rd gear puts tons of load on the motor.

And a 14.9:1 AFR is super damn lean.

That's why it popped, and probably had 10+* of KR.

Re: VIDEO!!!! 2007 Grand Prix GT XP Cam build UPDATE 3/16/11

Like i said honestly idk what i afr was at the time....when i looked at it b4 at wot i hat 10.7

Re: VIDEO!!!! 2007 Grand Prix GT XP Cam build UPDATE 3/16/11

My oil adapter gasket might of failed, started it up and ran fine idk what the hell is going on

Re: VIDEO!!!! 2007 Grand Prix GT XP Cam build UPDATE 3/16/11

Had some extra time yesterday after work, cleaned up all the oil that leaked out, and its not coming from the extension gasket, and i looked at the timing cover and i couldnt see anything, but who knows it could be leaking behind the balancer. The only other place that it could be coming from on the side of the motor is the timing cover crank seal. Any help would be great!!

Re: 2007 Grand Prix GT XP Cam build UPDATE 5/1/2012

This thread is turning into a whole lot of win............ car's lean as hell, OP doesn't remember his tune b/c he hasnt tuned it in over a year........car goes boom, OP says he will put forged pistons in to avoid this from happening again.

I Lawled.

For 1 i just got it back a week ago, and was driving it home to park in garage untill i get time to fix stuff on it.

Re: 2007 Grand Prix GT XP Cam build UPDATE 5/1/2012

Logical thread.

Blow a motor up with a m90 and a 3.4 pulley... Blame it on weak pistons and rods...

You do know that every one of the fast turbo 3800 cars are running stock motors right? You do know they are making roughly 3 times the power you are right?

Re: 2007 Grand Prix GT XP Cam build UPDATE 5/1/2012

**** happens!! I have no control over a rod bearing!!! Stop being such a dick!!! O BTW I had no knock or anything!!!
It happend when i was doing a case re-learn!!!!!!

A rod bearing just..."doesn't happen"

There has to be reasons why...

From the way you talk about not knowing about the tune, or the way it was really running...a caselearn won't really cause a rod bearing failure.

Trust me, been there...done that. I've put three of these 3800 motors in the trash. Like in the chatbox, I've tried to help you but you really don't take anyones advice on the matter...so here we go...

You asked the other day about an intercooler...that's a good choice.

Then this morning you asked if the XP goes well with a turbo.

If you have a heavy foot like I did...all the time, sh1t is going to break...it's common sense.

What I suggest for you now...is a low comression bottom end, think L32 or L67... LEAVE THE BOTTOM END ALONE. Toss your XP in there if it is still good, which I'd imagine it is. Get the intercooler...stage 2 kit is the best choice...run some bigger injectors, 42.5'ers will do on a blower setup...get a 3.25"...if you have the coin still, which IIRC...you do...get the heads ported...that's another great way of reducing KR. Think about it this way...flow flow flow. Better it flows, better the tune...longer it is going to last. You seem to be able to understand it fine when I throw out parts so here you go...

L32/L67 bottom end
Ported/Polished Heads
Crow 105 springs
Lucas 42.5lb Injectors
Your XP
Whatever intake you have...it'll work...open cone it.
Your headers...leave the catback alone...it'll flow fine if you haven't touched it
Autolite 103 plugs...gap them at .050"
Whatever plug wires...they all work...I don't like the Taylor wires
180* T-Stat
ZZPerformance Stage 2 IC setup
ZZPerformance MPS System: with that 3.4", a 3.25", and possibly a smaller one if you can get away with the 3.25"
Ported LIM, for the IC
Aeroforce Scan Gauge, to KEEP TRACK OF THE KR.
Wideband o2 for the tuning...if you don't already have one...
Toss out that double roller crap...run a stock timing chain and a stock dampner. I broke mine. That sucked.

How's that?

Should easily put you at the 300~ FWHP mark on just pump gas crapo 91.
