2006 GP passenger speaker SCREAMING

HI all,

Going to make this quick as I just got home and it's late and I have to work in 5 hours.
Two days ago I bought a new factory CD player for my '06 GP and had the dealership install and program it(old one quit playing CDs, but everything else worked fine). New one worked like a charm and all was swell, until tonight. Was driving to a show with my wife listening to a CD when all of a sudden all the bass quit and the volume went extremely low. Switched it to radio and was the same. Was pissed but continued driving when all of a sudden the passenger speaker just starts to make an unbelievably loud screaming noise. Was like a static noise as if the volume was turned all the way up. Deafening loud. Instantly turn volume all the way off, which did nothing. So I shut off the CD player and the noise continued. Took the next off ramp and pulled over and turned the car off, and the noise continued for about another 5 minutes! Just screaming from that one speaker with the car off. It did finally shut off, but would start again as soon as I put the key in the ignition or even open the door. I ended up finding out which fuse is for the radio and I took it out which fixed the problem so we were able to continue on our way.
Any ideas? I'm assuming it was a installation error, don't you think? When I was driving to the nearest exit I swear I could smell something burning as well, as if maybe a wire?
I am planning on calling the dealership on Monday to see what they say but wanted to know if any GP junkies knew what could be the problem. Any suggestions? Sure hope the dealership can fix it for free as I paid them $170 to install and program for me. Thanks in advance!
Bed time for now.
Thanks

Speaker screaming loudly even when car is off?

I have what may be a stupid question, but while I wait for my new CD player, is it okay to drive the car? Someone told me I shouldn't because the air bag sensor or something will set off a code and will have to be reset by dealer? Is this true? Or is it fine to drive?
Thanks

Your fine you had a failure on the new unit. Installation error would be pretty difficult, but it sounds to me that a component in the amplifier, or pre amplifier section has failed. The smell of burning electronics could have been the result of the amplifier being driven hard for the time it took to stop the car and disable it, or the component that caused the amplifier to make that sound.

You should have probably listed which type of system you have, a picture is worth 1000 words they say. I am not sure how many systems were there for 06, but I know there is at least 2, one being the monsoon system and the other being the plain jane radio.

What you are describing sounds more to me like a failure in the audio output amplifier of the radio. A failed output transistor could generate the type of noise you are describing. Have heard that type of noise on audio equipment here. Not likely there would be any interaction with the air bag circuit.
