2005 pathfinder help

selliott

I break stuff
Not sure if anyone knows about the pathfinder on here but im not getting any help on the pathfinder forums and this is my daily driver and I need to figure it out preferably without visiting a dealer. Last Thursday my pathfinder got a code for the crank sensor so I replaced it, it ran great for about an hour then it started running like garbage and got another code for the cam position sensor (P0011 i believe). This morning i changed it and went for a drive and it drove horrible no power etc, then it threw 2 codes for both cam sensors (P0011,P0021). I have no idea what is going on or what to do please help.

p0011 and p0021 check your oil level and condition./ these are the VTC codes not cam sensors.

there are two solenoid valves on the engine that control this

The Nissan tech notes are pretty crappy. Basically it could be anything. So far I've changed both vtc, crank position sensor, cam position sensors, all six coils and plugs and new oil and filter. I have also checked for vacuum leaks. So far it still runs like dog poop so its just sitting. I need to hook it up to an advanced scanner to see what the timing is doing. I have also followed all the procedures for the vtc replacement. I may have to take it to Nissan.

Well.....engine is trash, timing has jumped 28 degrees on both cam sprockets and the price on fixing any of it is more than i can buy another engine for bc its dealer only parts. And when i called the mechanic i went through to get this engine and just asked him if he had the number for the place he got the engine from he told me "No" and to "lose my number its not my problem". I put this engine in 1 year ago and put maybe 5000 miles on it and paid $3000 and now its trash........awesome! Thats my rant for the day, Have a great day everyone

Ok.......well after replacing the primary and secondary chains, tensioners, both intake (vtc) sprockets, then triple checking everything and spinning the engine by hand making sure everything checked out I put it all back together and It ran for about a minute nice and smooth then died. Now it is doing exactly what it did before, it acts like the timing is off its missing and backfiring and won't run for more than 10 seconds. Any thoughts? Could this be a pcm issue?

Ok so the dealership is dicking me around I paid a $100 to have it towed there then another $300 for diagnostics,i told them when I took it in that I knew the timing was off again but I not sure why. I also told them I had pictures of the timing setup before I put it back together if they would like to see them. So when they called me today they told me the timing is off 49 degrees each bank so I asked if they figured out why and they told me " we need to open it up and look at the chains because it was most likely installation error" 13hrs labor at almost $200 an hour I said no. I told the service guy I would bring the pictures in and they could look at them and he said "no that wouldn't tell us anything" I said well it would show you how they were setup and if I made a mistake you should be able to see it. The service guy then told me he would talk to the mechanic and call me back about the pictures. 5 hours later when he had not called me back I called again and the service guy said the mechanic would call me tonight (the mechanic lives a couple blocks from me and we are acquaintances) he didnt call and didn't answer my texts and when I called his phone is off. I am less then pleased about how this is being handled.
Here are the pictures please let me know if you see something wrong.

After install I spun the engine over 3 full chain rotations to make sure everything was still lining up before I reassembled.

So yesterday the nissan dealer got its 3rd and final strike, the service guy had been talking down to me for a couple days which to say the least doesnt go over well with me. But I decided to give it one more shot with this guy, so I asked if they actually checked anything or if they just checked the data and he said they just checked the data. So I asked if they checked the oil pressure (the variable timing solenoids run off oil pressure) and this genius says in a snotty tone " we can't check oil pressure if it doesn't run". I looked at him and said seriously? He looked at me like I was an idiot and I told him he shouldn't be allowed to talk to people about cars because apparently he didnt know anything about them. So I won't be going back there ever again.

I'm gonna give it one more shot then its a good possibility. Next vehicle I buy will be an LS based something.

I mean, I saw the car awhile back when we wrenched on his turbo car...and it was broken then, too.

lol
Yes it was broke then too its been sitting for a year and 1/2 (my typical slow pace). And yes the engine that is in it has less than 30k on it. One theory is the crank key broke and allowed the gear to turn otherwise it's something to do with the variable timing. Its being trailered to a buddy of mines this weekend who owns a shop and we will give it one last attempt.

Well we found for some reason fuel trims are at 100%. So we are running a bunch of tests to try and figure out why.
