2005 GP Base model

I bought her 3 months ago and completely fell in love with the looks, power, and all the possible mods that can be done. So far I have installed a K&N Apollo cold air intake, 2 breathers, zinc battery terminals, 2 new falken ziex tires, moog ball joints, a pioneer speakers and boss amp. Still have lots to do but with this awesome community I know I will be able to get her exactly where I want her

Where would you install breathers?

You are just creating a vacuum leak by doing this, like if you installed one on your oil cap with a working PCV system.

Looks good, I like the black on white.

Are you thinking of boost in the long run? Because if you think it's powerful now... lol

btw your pic is sideways

The lower hose was connected to the old air filter. My buddy told me not to remove and to just a bad breather for more air.

That breather is not necessary for the main intake, an N/A engine doesn't need more air. If you were to top swap or add a turbo, thats when you would actually need that k&n intake.

The air pump breather is perfectly fine.

keeping the K&N on as N/A will be ok, it's not going to give you the extra horsepower that it claims, however.

These engines don't make crap for horsepower without some form of boost, I.E. turbo, supercharger, and the ultimately rare and impossible to find CSC kits.

They stand up well in terms of durability and longevity, however, and almost any 3800 powered car will last for a very long time as a DD, with regular maintenance. If you haven't done the whole lower intake manifold gasket conversion and swap over to non-dexcool-coolant, double check to see if you have the black plastic LIM gaskets. If so, there's plenty of threads on how to do it, the search function is your best friend on this site. If not, then I would definitely suggest flushing out all of the dexcool if you still have it. it's pretty simple, just need a garden hose and some basic tools, and something to catch the old coolant so you don't get an environmental fine lol

Do you have an idea for what you want to do with the car yet?

Haha yea I have seen threads about the swap but I have yet to check if the past owner did it. If not I am definitely planning on doing it.

My plan right now is to finish off this check list

Then further ahead I want to do the top swap, put brand new shocks and struts.
So far that's all I have in my mind right now for this beauty

You will need to find a friend with a tuner, or buy a tuner, before you even start collecting parts for a top swap. It's required, and that's also where you will find the most power, is in a good tune.

I would stick with the same kind of spark plugs you have now, which should be iridium. At least until you start putting boost into the engine, that's when you will need colder copper core plugs. Also, stock plug wires are really the best bet in terms of longevity, there's not that much improvement to be made, and there are few aftermarket wires that can compete with the durability and reliability of factory. Of course, IF you want to change up the color go for it. lol

Also, the thermostat won't change anything if you go to a lower temp, all it will do is set off a CEL and you really won't see any cooler temps than 200 regardless of thermostat temp.

Everything else is a definite go, lol the only real upgrades you will need is once you do the top swap: headers to keep the KR monster away, a shift kit to keep the trans happy, and a tune to keep the engine from eating itself. Then, if that's not enough, you could go full blown racekar and do a cam, rockers, intercooling and E85. Or turbo. lol

All of the stickied threads are your friends, read all of them multiple times. They will answer most of your questions before you ask. like I do.

Yea I do want to change the color lol.
Get a tuner√
Keep plugs√
No thermostat √
Everything is a go √
Stick to the threads√

Well now I got my game plan thanks man, much appreciated.

you cant do #10 on that checklist you dont have a supercharger to change the oil :th_winking:
is that a plastic shroud over that intake? that looks super restrictive

It's really not that restrictive, sseilmnop did the same to his bonnie, its basically pulling air only from the fender/behind the headlight, making it a much more colder CAI. lol

yea I meant to cross that one out haha. Yup that's what I was going for a much colder CAI 😂. I love the sound it makes when I start it up too. I just need to buy the metal bracket so I can take the zip ties off.

eh. zip ties give it the built-not-bought look, and a good deep cleaning of the engine bay will make it purdy inside and out.

Just spray some engine degreaser all over and spray it down with a garden hose. If you can get it into a backyard, or over grass, then there's no cleanup afterwards. lol
