Re: 2005 CompG - Fall in MN already. Almost Bedtime for Grumps.
Been busy. I decided to do all the little things while doing the LIMs, so it's been a project.
I'm honestly glad I can come back here among the sane. So, so many come on social media asking for cheap power. Sadly, sometimes the outcomes are predictable and bad.
I hope they get 'em running again soon! :th_praying:
Well, I stuck with the plan, so it's been maintenance time! $300 bucks, zero more horsepower and I give no sh*ts. My trans still isn't rebuilt and still I don't own a tuner. Just waiting on pintle caps, that's it.
Here's what I been up to. Got these nasty things out -
Very, very tediously and carefully cleaned the heads.
I honestly had trouble finding a decent gasket scraper local. I ended up using a 1/4" shaft blade holder, some plastic and razor blades, and a short handle from Harbor Freight. Worked out good.
I have polished valve covers from ZZP, but I'm waiting to do something different or special to them. So I cleaned these up with Purple Power and put new gaskets. Noticed a small chip in the channel (pictured), but still gonna send it.
(yeah, sry I know I got my toes in there. lol)
My Fisher Price injectors looked like poo on a sidewalk, so I cleaned them. I might put new screens in since they come with the replacement pintle caps anyway. Never done that before, so we'll see.
A local mechanic actually said I could keep that test box after I used it. Who says there aren't good people still?
(1:26 vid showing what I did -
Fuel Injector Cleaning with OTC Electronic Fuel Injector Tester - YouTube)
Decided to flush out the power steering since I put a new pump on. Wish I had a before and after of that nasty thing. Yuck! Lol
This isn't even all the fluid I pushed through -
I did wipe the threads, but there are AL 605's after 14-15K. Haven't had a problem with copper so far. Trying NGK 4177's this season.
I went with the AC Delco "Professional" water pump from RockAuto. It came with a paper gasket, so I ordered a metal one. Obviously, the right one is OEM with stamped impeller(term?).
Even got new bolts. Dorman sells them. They were a little tricky to find, iirc. (sry the pics a bit fuzzy)
I went and found the actual AC Delco part numbers for the alternator bracket o-rings. Factory original o-rings for the heater core hoses are brown, as are the AC Delco's. The ones from the Felpro LIM kit are orange. The OEM elbow o-rings are all orange. Aluminum replacements come with one black one on the large end.
I decided to run my supercharger again but with a metal gasket, both on the right. The other one I bought off a Texas car, so the heat ya know. That one I like the snout bolts on better cus they're hex head. Mine are torx and one's almost stripped from the factory. I'll take apart Javi's and decide what to do to the case to dress it up later.
I ordered these way back this winter to keep me motivated, lol.
That's it then. Snail mail is bringing the pintle caps, then hopefully I can top off the rad and fire it up! Till next time :th_beer-toast1:
