That's a bit of an embarrassment, actually. I just grabbed that needle and ripped it right off when I first opened it, so it's way wrong.
The second cluster still has the stock positions to reference. Got a little too eager because I really wanted to see, lol.

I moved the tires back to front until it the snow flies. I'll be running the Blazer around town to loosen it up. The ol Tumblebeast should get us through fine. This new place is great! It's so much more quiet on this edge of town.
I plan to take a look at changing the DIC display to blue in a couple more weeks. I'll update over there when so. Probably re-do that cluster sitting in another section too. Busy, busy.
Back brakes are showing wear. I've been looking at stock diameter R1 rotors and Hawk pads. I've used err..powerslot. It's StopTech or something now, but those did well in the older cars. Guess we'll see what happens over the winter.

I took it out for a couple days a week or so ago. It's been sitting in the garage except to jump the Blazer a couple times. Got a new HF compressor waiting for the spring too now. I think we've spent more washing the thing than on gas since November. There's some issue that might be the fuel pump that needs attention. Sometimes it starts and runs weak, almost like ..well, like it's not getting enough fuel. Even if I hit the key rolling in neutral when I notice it, the car runs normal after that.
The Blazer's been holding up well, but a buncha little things like thermostat, idler pulley, battery ..belt, door, etc, etc. Lol
These came the other day! I'm looking at different pads because the R1's with pads were under $120. So, how much did I really spend on pads? (Note I've never used the R1 scorched pads before.)
They look really nice. Can't wait to get em bedded in.

I had the rotors a few weeks now, I think. The pads are here finally. Looking forward to getting these on the car vs my counter!
R1 eline from their ebay store and Brembo pads.
I bought the R1's with ceramic pads. Those are on the left. I tried to even the lighting in the photo. Whatever marks are on the left set are less evident in daylight, but still very noticeable.

the r1 pads are scorched, and feel like the roughest pad you ever felt, as far as i know the pads texture is part of the break in, when you first drive off and touch the brakes they feel and sound like gravel in between the pads and rotors, as you break them in as per the direction given they smooth out to normal feeling.

You're right, I checked and that's on R1's site. The scorched thing's supposed to help with bed-in just like you said. It can be clearly seen that they were held in a fixture and heated in the lower pic. That would explain the marks and appearance of being less porous. Maybe it even helps a bit with durability, kinda like "tempering" the pad? I can see it being better for bed-in for almost any road, because you might end up stopped at a light. The pad may sit on one spot on the rotor, and scorching might prevent imprinting.
I'm saving the R1 pads for after the Brembo's go. Thanks for the heads up on the bed-in feel with 'em. :th_beer-toast1:

from personal experience, id run the r1 pads, you will be amazed how well they stop. crazy part is after break in and cooling, they get really really good feeling, and they only get better feeling over the next week of driving.
whats really odd is how well they grip ice cold, they can be down right touchy till they get some heat in them.

Replaced the old/cruddy hoses and hardware on the front brakes. Turned it around and the parking brake was sticking. I checked the cable last May. It worked kinda janky but worked. I looked earlier and it's not so pretty.
Parking brake on the caliper was dirtier that I thought, then we drove it a couple times this winter. First glance showed alotta dust and corrosion, kinda like the fronts. The parking brake lever (spring looking thing) was stuck, not good. Sprayed down and it released. The cable moves freely now too.
I noticed when I felt the brake stick, rolling backwards was harder. Strangely, that didn't go away even though the brake was free. I pulled the pads and ..well, you can see.
The brake had stuck some time during the winter. You can see the pads have a lip (besides they're totally freakin' separated), that somehow ended up kinda opposite each other. When I reversed, the damaged shape forced them into the rotor, stopping it. It was like the ebrake was still on, but only going backwards. I really wouldn't believe this could happen if it didn't happen on my car. Lol
This brake thing's turning into shenanigans. What can I expect though; the thing's 12 years old this year. I really hope this caliper doesn't need rebuilding, but I'm not betting.
Remember how I said that I checked it when I got the car? Yeah, this was one of those "it can wait" things. I could've easily saved myself a buncha time/money by taking advice and going over this thoroughly. Now? Let's just say I'm relieved it's tax season.
For newer members, there's lots of info here. Take some advice and find time to do the simple things, like check/replace a parking brake cable.. :th_lickface:

Both rear calipers seem to be ok! Glad for that.
Bought R1 rear rotors, slotted only. Wanted to try their pads out back, but goofed my order. Not sure what pads I'll run now.
..I think my resonators leakin some air out the side. :th_sick1:

This is my 2nd order from R1. First was fast, no problems. I ordered these last Monday, the 6th. Ten days later, I have my parts ..and a set of free R1 pads. So they did make it right.
Anyway, I bought pads already so slotted only R1's and Hawk Ceramics will be out back. Had to mix brands because I couldn't find Brembo rears for this car.
Just waiting on my ABS module, which should be here tomorrow or Saturday. Now, if the salt was off the roads.. snowed yesterday. :th_yawning:
I got caliper pin boots, bushings, grease and retainer clips too.

They look pretty bad like that, I know. Pretty much everything back there needs replacing anyway. I'll probably get new ones and keep the rear cores too.
...just in case we keep this car a real long time. :th_biggrin2:

Interested to see how those black rotors are gonna look. I was considering those for my GP which is maroon in color, but decided I want something shinny behind the wheels...

The contact area will shed the black ..except maybe the slots/holes? I wanted the hat and edge to be black behind the wheel.
Slotted rears are for a few reasons. Surface area is greater without the drill holes. Secondly, most things I've read say that slotted grab a bit harder than drilled and slotted.
I'm not looking for actual rear brake bias, but a little more bite out back makes sense to me.
Gotta be honest and say that I don't see the same front/rear setup often. That was probably the tipping factor; I want to see how it works, lol.

i got the same r1's on all 4 corners, like i said, my pads all wear at the same rate. if the fronts are low, so are the rears. im a fan of matching brakes front and rear. why mix brands if you can help it.
the slots make a whooshing sound and you can sorta feel them in the peddle when your on them hard.
