2004-2008 Grand Prix's RECALLED for the Ignition

Re: Here it is all.......

I bet if you took it to a dealer they still wouldn't have info on it.

yeah its slow but most of the tech's i know are suggesting a separate ring or (off the record) the quicksteel trick to close up the slot to a hole at the center of the key so the keychain has no leverage.

Received my recall notice today for my 2007 Grand Prix. Said to remove everything from key ring immediately including key fob!
Call now, schedule appt. for after October 1 when "parts" will be available. May need to drop car as it may take longer than the 15 minutes needed for repair. Funny.

Re: Here it is all.......

Lmao i probably got one in the mail as well back in FL but seeing as the vehicle hasn't registered again and that I haven't been back in awhile I'll wait till I get back and get it sorted out then.

Since it's been about a month now I figured I'd ask if anyone has even seen what the new key looks like for our cars?

The keys didnt change, they actually use the SAME key.

All they did at the dealership for me was:

1: Put two tiny black pieces where the key ring goes on the key, so its a smaller hole, enough size for about two key rings total
2: Put two smaller keyrings on the set i had with the car, gave me one extra set of black pieces and two small key rings to install on my other set.

The total cost of the recall on the slip it said was .75. They paid, but for real GM??? Is this really the fix to your huge problems? The cheapest and easiest way out i suppose. Will post pictures tomorrow night of my key set. Its really a lol moment.

If they are not replacing the key I am not even going to go in once I get the notice.

FWIW though my sister in law got her recall on her G5 and the dealer replaced her keys entirely.

Hmm, i have to see what happens, but im positive they didnt do my key, as they said here is the set for your second set of keys, they would of said to bring that key in aswell

somebody must of been fired for the initial recall and somebody else promoted for coming up with a $0.75 fix to the problem

had a 99 sunfire where the ignition went from too much sh*t on it, luckily i had parked my car at my gfs at the time, then when i went to leave it wouldnt roll over, so bought a used steering column for $125 was cheaper than a new ignition from canadian tire or gm :P
