2003 GTP - Front Left Door Speakers Dead

I have a 2003 GTP with the Bose system and OnStar. The right front door speakers do not work - both the the woofer and the tweeter are dead. We wanted to replace the factory head unit anyway, so we did. It's a Kenwood single-DIN that we got from Crutchfield. Yeah their prices are a little higher than most, but their installation kits are very complete and support is top notch. Anyway, we got the new head unit installed, along with the interface to go between the new head unit and the factory amp and the left, front door speakers are still dead. So that eliminates the head unit as the issue.

What's your best guess as to the cause now? Dead channel in the factory amp (how can I test for that)? Blown speaker (would a blown woofer also take out the tweeter somehow)? Bad wiring somewhere?

speakers would have been the first thing i looked at. mine quit and the paper was no longer attached to the speaker frame.

I guess I'll pull the door panel off next. The previous owner recently had all 4 window motors replaced. I don't *think* that would involve messing with the speaker wiring, but I don't know for sure.

you wont know till you get inside there. most likely the speakers dead. i also had a rear one, it was intact, but dead.

Might be like the rears, and just stop working. When I replaced mine, they looked fine, but didn't produce any sound. I think others have had the same problem with fronts too.

So I got lucky. I took the door panel off and the speaker looked good. Took the speaker out and the connection looked like it was corroded a bit. Honestly it didn't look bad enough to make a difference, but I hit it with some WD40 anyway and put it back together. BAM! It works. The Bose system is awesome with all the speakers working!

For those interested, we put in a $90 Kenwood single DIN head unit. It's awesome. Crutchfield is a bit more spendy than other sellers, but their customer support is top notch. We got the steering wheel interface, the interface to connect to the factory amp and Sirius XM. Around $200 all-in. Installation was cake. My son changed the colors on the Kenwood to match the Pontiac's backlighting. It looks like it came from the factory that way.
