2003 3.8 grand prix enigine noise

Might be guessing but a loud ticking at idle then it goes away as he revs it...either a bad lifter, exhaust leak, or a flex plate IMO...but I then rule out lifter because it would tick faster as the revs increase...his ticking stops the second he hits the gas...hence why I suggested the flex plate.

I do agree on the video though.
 


it only ticks or knock sometimes if i hammer the pedal down in neutral , and if im driving and the car is holding back no power, if i force the engine it might do it.
 
clogged cat was the problem.
talk about a difference, this thing moves now.
very surprised at it now, didnt know these cars moved so good.
 
My car sounds exactly like this. Does your car have any power? Mine can barely make it up a hill. I was told it was the timing chain.. Where is this flex plate everyone is talking about?

Did you try to run it without the cat? Curious to know if the cat is required or not. I was talking to a muffler guy and he said just cut it out and install a straight pipe.

If your cat was clogged I would definitely look into WHY. I would replace your spark plugs if they haven't been changed in awhile. just because you put in a new cat doesn't mean you've fixed the problem. you could ruin your new cat and be in the same boat. I would know, I learned the hard way on this one.

i will do that next week, now i have problems from first to second, shifts and different rpm's when i floor it it reaches the rev limiter then i have to let go to switch, sometimes it shifts ok, have a little to much oil in the tranny, will drop the pan and change oil and filter and see what happens, i also got check engine light again on.
