2002 vs 1998 transmission line fitting

Back when I had my 99 gtp I put a Dyno Tech Trans in it. It came from a 98 and from what I remember a fitting was needed to attach the lower transmission line to the trans itself.

I cannot find a picture of what I did/used as I will be getting my hands on another 98 trans but for my 2002 regal.

It would be nice to have all the parts needed in hand. Does anyone know?

Just get some 1998 tranny lines. Ran into line issues when i 4t65 swapped my 97. Had been told 98 lines work on al 98-02, wrong. Starting in lte 99 they switched from thread in fitting to quick disconnect fittings on the tranny

Yeah im pretty sure my 99 was a threaded fitting which would (just fall in) so a fitting was needed.

I just took a peek an my 02 and it is a quick disconnect.

Yeah my 4t65 was from an 01 monte ss. A 98 will still have the quick disconnect on the radiator side of the lines so itd drop in on your car like factory :)

I thought about what I posted, im a dummy.

My 99 had a screw in style (feed) from what I remember

My 02 has a quick disconnect (feed) that is screwed in

Once I get the trans I will compare to see. I just hate having something apart and not having all the pieces.

Yeah when i did my swap it was at nite. Luckily i had just cut the lines on the donor car so i was able to franknstein some lines until i could get a drop in set from an 01 lumina. I kinda had the reverse problem of yours lol

IIRC 98 lines are threaded at trans and click at rad. When I run into this..I usually have a spare set hanging on the wall. Right now..click at both ends...I'd have to go find a set.

I contacted Dave @ Triple Edge and this is what he had to say

All 2000+ transmissions used quick connect fittings and cooler lines, so using a 98 trans in a 2000+ car either requires using 98-99 model year cooler lines OR you have to use to of the short return fittings that go into the transmission case due to thread size changes so you can't just swap fittings. This was intentional as mid year 99 to early 2004 had a checkball in the feed cooler fitting, but this won't fit your 98 case. A shorter return fitting will be the same thread but it will be about a little short so the line won't fit correctly in the bracket that holds the lines. So to answer your question- you need 2 of the 2000-2003 style return fittings in your 1998 transmission to work with your 2002 quick connect lines.
