2002 3.1 Misfire

Hello All!

This is my first time to the Grand Prix community. I've been recently having issues and I'm seeking some help! The car is a 2002 3.1 liter V6 with 226K miles on it and I'm trying to make it last! Let's get real..times are tough.

About two months ago, I went to start my car and it misfired. I had a Diagnostics machine plugged into it and the code was "Generic Misfire"

I had a fuel injection flush done, I changed my plugs/wires/coils and it still misfires. It only misfires when I first start the car. Then I start to drive and it's fine. Also, I have not noticed any more fuel consumption than normal.

Any thoughts as to what my next steps are....Fuel Regulator??, replace the injectors??, Fuel pump??

thats mostly normal, mine does that everytime its running, it seems and acts like a misfire but its not,,,mine would throw the same code, but it was because when i would start it up the starter wouldnt hook up right and would bogg down and cause it to misfire, trying holding the key longer when your starting it and see if the code stops comeing up
 
i would test the injectors and the pump, before i would go replacing them, do you know if any of them has been replaced?,as for the regulator i would go ahead and replace it, with 225k miles on it, it wouldnt hurt and i got mine for like 15 bucks so its not to bad, but if any of the 3 things were bad you would have other problems because they would effect everything not just 1 or 2 cylinders
 


Check the MAF sensor.

Unplug it and see if it runs fine at start-up...if it does, then your MAF might be dirty and need a cleaning...buy some MAF cleaner for a few bucks. To note; Most of GM's older V6's are rougher engines and tend to sometimes misfire when idling and it is totally normal. I'd check for a vacuum leak or have the Ignition Control Module tested at your local auto parts store for free. To check the vac leak, while the car is idling spray some carb cleaner around the vac lines...if the idle changes...fix that vac leak ;) Also...if the o2 sensor hasn't been changed...might be a good time to check that...but crappy MPG's lead me to think vacuum leak or o2.
