2001 GTP to GT swap - need some quick help

2000GPGT

Not sure if you guys remember me, but I'm trying to fix a bad tranny in my 2000 GPgt - it's got 146k

Anyway, I have the oportunity to buy a side hit 2001 GTP with 128k - the whole car for $500 - still runs good -

Questions: will the GTP tranny work behind the GT?
how about swapping both engine and tranny?

I have to tell them something by the end of the day, so if anyone is listening - thanks for a quick response

:th_skull:

Thanks for the response. By yes it will work are you referring to the engine/tranny swap or the tranny for tranny swap? Which way is best?
Thanks

You can swap over the trany from the gtp into you're gt. If you swap over the motor from the gtp without the supercharger it will be slower due to the lower compression in the supercharged motors.

Best bet is to buy the car. And swap over EVERYTHING. Just swap over the transmission,Axles,Engine harness and the engine and supercharger.

You'll notice a real nice power increase and you'll have a new and working trans installed.

Ok, I love the idea of some more hp and torque. Especially in a sleeper unmarked GT. I am a little scared of getting in over my head though. Here are some thoughts.

How much different are the wiring harnesses? Will I have to change the whole thing?

How many computers boxes do I have to change?

Will I have to rip the whole dash out of the GT?

Will the boost gauge be an issue?

Thanks so much for the help.

If you just do the transmission, you'll need to get the programmed gear ratio in your PCM changed. Otherwise it will have issues. This is not a problem if you take the whole engine, transmission, and PCM/harness. With that, all you have to do is get your VIN programmed into the new PCM.

Also,

I forgot to ask about the heads up display in my GT - will that be any prob?

thanks

No. It receives data digitally over the OBD2 bus.

By you saying get the vin programmed - how and who could do that?

Also does anyone know how big a job it would be to change the harness/computer stuff?

Will I have to rip the dash out of my old GT?

thanks

Thanks for continuing to help me along.

I am still wondering about the harness though and how deep I will have to go into the old GT dash with the GTP harness?
