2001 GT Upgrades

You might as well get a plog and 180* t-stat too. If you do make sure its ceramic coated, or else the painted one will just make smoke and melt off anywayz.

The 180* t-stat....I beilieve thats a 180°spark plug? maybe? not sure....
And in refference to the plog, will I beable to keep the front and rear manifold if I go through with a top swap? Don't want to waste money on parts I will be replacing later.

Also someone mentioned the M90 conversion kit by ZZ Performance....Isn't that the same as a top swap? or is it different? And if so is it better or worse... :th_scratchhead:

a thermostat and spark plugs are completely different things. a 180* thermostat will help your car to run cooler since the coolant will flow at 180* instead of 195* like the stock one. spark plugs are..spark plugs.

if you buy a plog you can reuse that as well. it replaces the front exhaust manifold, which is the second most restrictive part on these cars behind the downpipe.

the SSM90 kit that ZZP sells is like a top swap, but you dont need a few things that you would from a top swap. it is easier to install by far, but the downfalls of it are that it is more expensive as a whole, the pullies are more expensive than the regular supercharger pullies, and the system runs off of the accessory belt instead of having a two belt system like the GTP does.

ooooookay. T-stat now makes sense as thermostat :p And so in the long run, if I had someone to help me install it for a sub sandwich and a 6 pack of beer that knew what they were doing, the full out top swap would be the way to go?

yes. a full top swap is the way to go since it will be cheaper and essentially perform better. while you have all of the parts you can port them while they are off the car too for an even better setup.

When you reffer to porting all the parts....you mean...?
I know you can get the plog and the back one ported...but what else?

You could port the ehxhaust manifolds, supercharger inlet,Smooth out the hump in the stock throttle body. You could also do some port work to the heads.

IF i were to do it all over again i would gasket match the heads and LIM along with all the other porting i did (blower and TB).

So if I personally don't have the equipment to port it, which is machining the valves to make them bigger to a certain degree to retain compression and a higher flow rate? Should I take it to a shop and get them ported?

if you have the time and money getting your heads ported is probably the biggest gains youll ever get out of this motor. youd then be able to run a bigger cam as well.

if youd like it, ported heads rock.

Okay, So I got the downpipe, plog and rear manifold, CAI, and a new pcm. Will the ported heads need to be replaced once I do the top swap?

when doing the top swap, the l67 heads you are putting on COULD be ported and it would help you out a lot with your power and knock reduction. however, i wouldnt do this if you dont feel confident that you wont screw them up.

i have the SSM90 kit, i run the GTP belt system too. youre talking about porting heads, gasket matching intakes...blah blah. my car goes 13.0 on a 3.4 and rockers, and traps 104. i have no machining work on anything. how fast do you want to go? sounds like youre getting ready to dump a chitload of money you dont have to. biggest thing with these cars is the tune, no one tunes correctly so the GP world will be plagued with $2000 dollar cam swaps and mid 13 quarter mile times

So the porting really isn't worth the cost of getting them machined is what your saying? And really I need to get the car tuned and get the pcm correctly programmed?

tuning and traction are the biggest things you need to worry about to go fast. the porting unless youre going to do it yourself isnt much worth it at this point.

the car is going to feel a lot faster once you get all of this done.

Okay, so for tuning.....I got to.....Just some car shop and have them tune it some way? I know tuning is kinda like specializing the car for the parts and its purpose, at least, I think it is, but Im not sure how to go about tuning....

your best bet is to go with a vendor pcm or to find someone locally who will tune you. a wouldnt trust a shop that does general tuning with a car they are more than likely unfamiliar with.

^X2 on that. most people get hp tuners, which is a good route but kind of expensive. You could get it dyno'd but its hard to find a shop specializing in 3800's... Since the company 5 miles from my house went out of buisness :th_angry2: I was just going to get a flashed pcm thats unlocked for my top swap, so when i get the $$$ i could tweak their settings for temperature changes. You should look into dyno tune 3800 specific thats the best.
